Metallic Paint Question

My PC goes to 7...
[wasn't sure where to put this post]

My cousin, who lives in Slovakia, is buying a new car. This is a fairly "barebones" automobile, and there is an option for metallic paint. He emailed me, asking if metallic paint does anything more than make the car look better. Does it protect the paint more? Protect against UV? Or is it just for show?

Does anyone know?

BTW, here's a link to the car . He says it's made in the Czech Repulic, and built on the VW platform. My favorite option is the soda can dispenser!:D

I drive ametalic black car and as far as i know its just for show,as it has a clearcoat on top

For what its worth if he's into detailing then get a flat black car as IMHO it will look better when properly detailed

purely for looks....

Remember metallic paints are harder to blend in if the car ever gets a boo boo..........shops tend to paint entire panels which costs more...

i have a metalic black car and its possible but takes alot of work to fill in chips but looks great when freshly detailed and gives a nice reflection when the sun hits it... i love my car but hes going to have to wash it a hell of a lot black shows everything

Also metallic blacks will typically be more of a gray (or even a very dark shade of another color) than a true black.

Example... my WRX is called "midnight black metallic" but it's actually a very dark blue. VW's metallic black looks more like a dark gray than true black.

Thanks for the responses.

My cousin isn't into detailing, but I'm going to give him some AIO when he visits this summer...
