Alright well heres how it went today

Wash

Clayed

Wash

ScratchX

NXT

NXT second

I was very satisfied with the first layer of the NXT, but after applying a second layer, it looks as though I overdid it. There are smears, marring, and swirls everywhere!

And obviously im doing something wrong, because there are swirls even after using scratchX

I think my microfiber towels are causing the marring. (though they are brand new, I never reuse)

Anyways If I wash tommarow and apply #26 should it look ok again? This is a brand new truck with less than 8000 miles on it and it already looks horrid because of me

Wax won't fix that mess. The ScratchX probably left marring. If I were you I would get a PC, because hand correction is very time consuming and the results won't be as good as a machine polish will make it.

What probably happened here, is you didn't work ScratchX properly, and ended up introducing swirls, marring, instead of removing it.

Are you doing this detail by hand or by machine? How are you using each product?

Last, two applications of NXT is unnecessary because NXT has cleaners that will remove each previous layer, so one coat from now on.

Wash all your mf towels using the proper cleaner, and they will be fine. I don't think they had anything to do with this, and after one good wash, they definitely won't.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of truck do you have? Is that a Ford SuperDuty?

Did everything by hand. On spring break so I have time.

Maybe It was that I didn't let the second coat of NXT cure before removing it, I'm pretty sure that I used the scratchX properly because the first coat of NXT had good results even in direct sunlight. Yes its my fathers Superduty he doesn't seem to pay to close attention to details but I do, The Microfiber towels I have are 75% polyester and 25% polyamide. Are these the proper towels to use?

My ScratchX technique - using a yellow foam applicator pad. Applied in small circles, went horizontally, vertically, horizontally again, then finally vertically again.

Maybe it is time to buy a porter cable DA? You think I can handle it? Im running low on money.

I figured that was a superduty. That fender looked mighty familiar, lol. And that's a huge truck to do by machine, let alone by hand!

Make sure that when you work ScratchX you work a very small area at a time, and work the polish until it starts to disappear, and not a second before.

The mf towels are fine. Please read what I said about NXT. Two coats are redundant because the second coat will just remove the first, and I like to let sealants cure for at least 15-30 minutes before starting to remove it, but only if you are in the shade, no sun.

If you are going to start detailing, you may want to seriously consider getting a PC. Your details will be a lot easier and will come out much better.

Alright, I am seriously thinking of purchasing a porter cable 7424 Sonus SFX Polisher Kit from this site right now. Detailing is what makes me happy.

Any coupon codes that I should know about before I go ahead and order?

I'm not really sure. Check in the Autopia forum and see if there is anything mentioned there, and if not, try emailing them. While you are there, I would suggest picking up a little bit better polish. ScratchX is *extremely* mild, and I don't really care for it all that much. There are a lot to choose from, just do some research and you will find a good one that will make you happier.

You will be very happy when you try out the PC. Detailing by hand is for the birds, lol.

Here's a pic of the F250 I used to have a few years ago, just for kicks. All done with a PC.

Heres my fathers truck.

Was driving it today and It lost power for some reason, guess the EGRV needs cleaning, or the turbo vanes are sticking.

I went ahead and ordered a PC 7424 Kit from autopia, I remembered that I had that 10% discount i never used so I saved 20 bux.

Thanks for all your feedback Ddookie.

That's funny. Change the wheels and they are identical trucks, lol. I even had the same front grill.

They are great looking and performing trucks when they work right, but wow did I have TONS of problems with mine. I ordered my 03' six months before it was released so I could be one of the first with the new (at the time) 6.0 power stroke, and only owned it for six months before Ford gave me a full refund. They sent engineers down to try to fix it and all and couldn't.

I love the new 08's with the twin turbo setup, but never again will I own a newly release Ford engine without the bugs being worked out first, so I went ahead and ordered an F150 this time. It should be here in about four weeks or so.
