Yeah, they're remnants of our old colonial heritage

- if I remember my history classes correctly, you guys left a bunch of them with us after World War 2, and people have just continued making them since (pretty cheap and easy to do, though I'd not want to get into an accident riding one). Pain to be following one though - shiny stainless steel and chrome in the afternoon sun means a bit of a headache, and underpowered surplus engines means everyone in the other lanes zooming past you.
Oh, we also have public transport versions of these - they're called jeepneys, and they're usually painted in bright, clashing colors, with anime characters, basketball players, and/or the driver's wife and children painted on
