Menzerna Triplets incl PowerGloss

Ok Autopians:

Ordered 1 32oz bottle of Menzerna PowerGloss Compound (S34A) directly from Menzerna USA on MON. It arrived on TUE. Great service. Thanks to Jeff Silver at Menzerna. Cost is about $20. Tried it in cooler weather on SAT.

The PGC is a semi-thick white creme. Does not feel too abrasive to the touch. Meguiar's #2 feels more abrasive. Contains Water, Aluminum Oxide, Naphtha, Mineral Oil, Glycerin, making it similar in content to some 3M products. It is silicone and wax free. Again, 3M-like. I know some folks want to know the MSDS sheet. Well, its right on the label.

According to the label, it removes 1000-1500 grit sanding scratches on fresh and aged paints and clearcoats leaving a hi-gloss finish. It says it recommends a followup with IP and FP.

On the front of the bottle it shows an abrasives chart but does not give a number. On Meguiar's scale of 0-10 I am estimating that PGC would be listed somewhere at 7.5. A notch above DACP.

I used it like I used the MIP and MFP. Layed down one 6 inch strip of compound on the body panel. Used the PC pad to blot it over a 2X2 foot area. I did just the hood. Used PC & Yellow Pad. Instructions say to mist the pad or surface with water if need be. It does not break down quickly so one can work it longer than the twins. A spritz of water extends its lifespan. IP broke down the quickest for me. Then FP. Then PG. Instructions say to wipe off with damp MF, which I did. I will complete the rest of the car next week. Its that good.

Mama Mia!!! High gloss finish to say the least. No hazing whatsover for me. I could have gone directly to a non-abrasive polish and a carnauba wax. I was shocked because this IS a rubbing compound. Still followed up with IP & FP per jgv advice. Thanks jgv. Results are a diamond like surface. Right now 96% of my clearcoat scratches are gonzo (will definitely need a rotary for the last 4%, maybe next year). I started my scratch removal process 2 weeks ago with SR #9, then went to #2 (not made for PC use I found out), then Menzerna IP & FP, then DACP then PGC. I did not find PGC to be that aggressive. Just work it thoroughly to a fine haze. Use PC speed 3.5 then bump it up to 5 until you get the almost-gone look. What's left after the wipedown is a hi-gloss finish. I then went to IP (Orange pad) and FP (White pad) and then finished up with 3M's Carnauba-Based Show Car Finishing Glaze (39013) by hand and then Harly's wax by hand using 3 CMA's Magic towels for cleanup. My neighbor almost fell down when he saw the hood. My brother came over 1/2 hour later and asked me to do his car next week (a 2002 Long Beach Blue Pearl NSX). Business is good.

I was looking for a little more oomph in a polish. I found it. Someone said that the shine is in the polish. That person is 100% correct. Very impressive product. No hazing. I could not believe it. Use it with confidence.

Right now the only place selling it is Menzerna USA 845-352-5850 (dealers only) and maybe www.grizzly.com under a different label.

Great jmsc, glad you like it and the 'triples' results:xyxthumbs

This is what I got from them on my hood a couple of months ago:

v85097,

Car is a 2002 Honda LX Ruby Red Pearl (darker maroon). My car was at a dealer's service dept last month and they washed the car. I got it back with more than its share of linear micro-scratches. Mostly on the hood and side panels. That's what drove me to the purchase of a PC and all those polishes. In retrospect, the dealer did me a favor. I have learned a ton about car detailing in 1 short month.

Also, I would recommend to everyone like jgv says, to use the 3 menzerna products in tandem. With the proper tools, techniques and time, the triplets are not that overly abrasive in my opinion. Its a little more work but well worth the effort. The surface looks and feels like a million bucks.

I'm hoping that someone with more experience with the Menzerna products can confirm or explain otherwise my observations with using these polishes.

I recently purchased a kit with 16 oz. of MIP and 16 oz. of MFP along with an orange pad and a white pad.

The car had been prepped with KAIO and KSGx2 and PSx2 a couple of weeks before; but that setup didn't conceal the underlying paint defects adequately, hence the purchase of the polishes. Before polishing the car was washed with Dawn and dried.

I used the MIP on the orange pad to try to work out some swirl marks and fine scratches on a new-car grade paint. The product was applied with a PC according to their enclosed instructions (speed 4). My experience is that MIP must be a really mild polish because it really didn't make much of a dent in the swirls and scratches. This was using the PC's weight alone . When I went back over the same area again, used a bit of pressure. Maybe a little bit better results with some diminution of swirls, but no effect on scratchs (which appear quite light and superficial). I went back again and put the speed up to 5-5 1/2 and put a lot more pressure on the PC. I got the swirls out but there were still the linear scratches (presumably from washing/sealing) done previously. I went over the area a couple of more times as above and noticed that the swirls were gone but I still couldn't get rid of these little scratches.

Is it possible that the IP is not abrasive enough to go through the KSG on the first or second pass? (I assume the Dawn washing removed the wax).

I would be suprised if I had to use something more aggressive (such as the Powergloss mentioned earlier) on a basically new car finish, but I'm placing an order for some to try it out.

As far as technique, I've found that you really need to keep the PC going and polishing with moderate to firm pressure until the stuff is basically all gone. All you have left at that point is some dust which whisks right off with a dry MF cloth. On my first couple of passes, I was hesitant with the polish and didn't completely work it in and it was a pain to remove even with detailing spray.

I'd appreciate any insight somebody might have to help me get the little scratches out. I'd prefer to stay with the products I have already, but if there are pointers to the "next" polish I should try, I'm all ears.

Thanks.

Same appreciation for Menz especially S34A... it's the best compound I've used bar none... I tried it on a relatively newly painted car with lots of 1200 grit sanding marks... Wool pad + Diamond Cut vs Wool Pad + S34A...

Result was extremely clear even on a silver car that the S34A side came out a lot, lot clearer, scratch free and I finished the job a lot faster...

going back to your question, try to use it with a cutting pad with a PC or polishing pad with a rotary... unless the swirls are sanding marks, i have been able to remove moderate swirls with MIP

jaim,

I want to buy the Power Gloss. I've tried IP and FP. The IP doesn't cut enough into some scratches. I used the CMA orange pad. It sounds like PG will cut faster and save me time. So where can I buy PG?

BTW, I like working with IP and FP. Although both seem to dry up a little too fast before I can work them in. I really like the no-haze result after IP, even on my dark mettalic green VW. And I didn't have any problems buffing off either one, I just used a damp MF cloth (Viper and Power Scrubber).

GreenArrow,

Buy directly at http://www.menzerna.com, it will only cost you about $4.50 a liter + shipping from germany.

CMA is over pricing the menzerna twins. A liter for bot the menzerna tiwns will only cost between $4 - $6 each.

Hi jaim,

How do we buy it directly? Do you happen to have an email contact or is there online ordering? I wasn't able to find anything of that sort. Thanks! $4 or $6 per liter is soooooooooooooooo cheap!

Shipping from Germany can't be cheap, plus it will take forever to get here. If you buy it direct from their US distributor they charge $20 + about $5 for shipping. The above mentioned Grizzley site sells it for about $15 + $6 for shipping.

This is the reply I received with respect to ordering product from Germany:
