Meguiars Soft Wash gel review

I bought this thinking it would be good because it was thick and said it gently suds away dirt and grime. Well after using this twice I have to say it is horrible! This is by far the worst sudding car wash I have ever used and I usually buy the cheapest car wash. After two washes I have used half of the bottle and it still didn't sud up much and it definitly didn't last long. I am writing this to warn those who dont already know about this product.

This is definitly a waste of money!

Interesting comments on this product.

I recently tried it the other day, and my results were the opposite. I thought it had great suds and my wash mitt just seemed to glide effortlessly over all the body panels.

The formula might have been changed recently due to experiences like this one. The two bottles that I ordered from Meguiar's definitely had labels that were different from the same product that I used in the past. It's a product that is worth revisiting if you have not tried it in awhile.

:2thumbs:

I completely agree with Pontman43 on this one. I went through a whole 16oz. bottle in just two washes because of the pathetic lack of suds and bad lubricity. This is one of the worst products I have EVER used. Smells nice though...a lot like CG Maxi Suds...

I'm interested about the new version though. Any other washes you could compare it to?

do some searching and you'll find sudsing doesnt increase how well a wash works... though that doesnt mean that this product isn't bad. I notice that Sonus shampoo doesnt suds up too much but it works great.

You guys are using way too much. I used to use this all the time back in the old days and a bottle would last me 3 or 4 years....:o I remember it being pretty good stuff, just a little pricey in that 16 oz bottle (although my yearly car wash expenses weren't nearly as much as now....)

Keep in mind that sudsing may also be affected by the relative hardness of the water in your area. As always, ymmv. Although we all know that sudsing ability is not necessarily the best indicator of how well a car wash actually cleans. Just ask the guys on here who use Optimum No-Rinse or QEW.

All I know is that just about everything else I have foams up really well, including Meg's own Gold Class. But this stuff was CRAP. I had to keep using more because the suds would die. In a lot of cases with washes suds are the most active "encapsulating" polymers that keep dirt away from the car's surface. The horrible lubricity showed that. Maybe we got a bad batch...

You should call Meguiars Customer service and report the problem, I am sure they will make it right and probably give you something else to make up for your troubles.

Just a thought...

Not a bad idea, but...

1. Too late, I tried this stuff a couple of years ago and went through the whole bottle.

2. I'm not so sure it's a problem so much as a subpar product. I'm not going to worry about it too much, especially considering the tremendous amount of good soap I have laying around now.

Hadn’t used Meg’s Soft Wash Gel in a long time so I managed to “borrow a bit for this morning’s wash.

Here’re the buckets filled with fresh wash solution and rinse water. Not that I’m either for or against suds but they seemed ok to me.

Here they are after I finished washing my truck.

What suds were there seemed to last through the process. The wash solution wasn’t the slickest I’ve ever used but felt plenty slick enough throughout the wash. It left the car with a nice “glow.

Was I satisfied? Sure. Would I use it again? Perhaps. Since it only comes in a 16oz size I’m unlikely to ever buy it again. I’d have no problem recommending it to someone with limited storage space and budget. Any 16 oz size product is expensive per use it’s still cheaper than other 16 oz products so it would be a good choice the non-enthusiast who only washes occasionally.

Your mileage may vary.

PC.

PC--you definitely got better results than I. After I was done washing (after using about 8 ounces!) the water was almost completely flat, with a very very small layer of suds on top. My Gold Class left my Soft Wash Gel in the dust. Glad it was just me...I guess I got a particularly bad batch of the formula.

I treat it almost like a "boutique" wash. I agree that the price steers many away from this product. Heck, when you can buy a gallon of either NXT or Gold Class for a much better value, then it is simply a no-brainer in terms what most people will choose.

However, for "good 'ole times sake", it still is a fine product that I will keep in my arsenal for a long time to come.
