Meguiars Show Car Glaze and Polymer Sealant

Hi,

I was planning on using the show car glaze or the polymer sealant after I can and prep the car.

Has anyone used these products and can tell me how the shine and durability is?

I like the glaze alot, just don't expect it to last more than 1.5 weeks. Pretty bad life span. The shine is something else though, hard to beat it. It will hide alot of swirls and defects due to the oils and fillers.

The Polymer sealent from what I have heard will last 3-4 months.

I have used show car glaze...and Meguiars Machine glaze (with PC) , Machine Glaze is better, and topped it with Souvran..Looked great..but car needs to be cleaned..Swirl free and no to little oxidation/acid rain drops to get best result

I was going to use the 3M Cleaner wax and then the Meguiars products. Is there any harm with that?

Also, what meguars products would giv eme the best shine and protection and durability?

Ok, if you want to stick with Meguiars and if you have light swirls this is what I would suggest.

Meguiars clay (not as bad as people say, they may have a new formula I dont know)

Meguiars Swirl Mark Remover 2.0

Meguiars polymer sealent

Meguiars Wax or Glaze (the wax will last longer but the glaze will shine just a little bit more, you would probaly want the wax)

I don't have any swirl marks on the cars. Just want to clean up the paint (its smooth but it can always be smoother :D ).

The show car glaze and the Polymer sealant combo sounds good. Any thoughts?

joed1228,

So the glaze goes on top of the sealant?

I figured the sealant would be the last thing I put on.

what would I use to clean the surface so the sealants and glaze stick to it good?

Yeah, this one is news to me too. I thought that glazes generally went under a pure wax because they had very mild cleaners (and weren't durable too).

joed1228, are you saying you can apply a glaze over a polymer sealant??? (that would be cool)

Also, my understanding is that you can't put anything under #20 because it will clean it off. Apparently it has cleaners in it. I asked Meguiars about this and that's what they told me.

I plan on using a pre-cleaner before putting on polymer, and Dawn washing it just for good measure incase there's any cleaner residue left over.

You would use the No. 7 Showcar Glaz first, followed by the No. 20 Polymer Sealant. The results are pretty cool - No. 7 shines up the paint extremely well, and the No. 20 lasts four to six months. I've used this combination on new cars for years.

If the paint has some swirls, then I use the No. 9 Swirl Removers, followed by the No. 20.

My idea of the car prep was more like:

1) Wash the car to remove any dirt

2) Apply 3Mâ„¢ One Step Cleaner Wax Light Oxidation Remover 39006 to clean the paint up

3) Apply Meguiars Showcare Glaze #7

4) Apply Meguiars Polymer Sealant #20

Is there any problems with this combo? Anyone have nay suggestions?

Applying anything before the #20 is usless, the #20 contains cleaners that will remove anything you put on it before.

This is real simple, if you are using a polymer product you CAN'T have anything on the surface before it that will interfere with bonding.

If you are using that combo you should do the #20 first.

Seems that there is a divide on the use of the glaze and sealant.

On close examination of my car, I found some scratches that are about 2 to 3 inches in length.

Given this, I am thinking using the following:

1) Wash the car to remove any dirt

2) 3Mâ„¢ One Step Cleaner Wax Medium Oxidation Remover 3Mâ„¢ One Step Cleaner Wax Medium Oxidation Remover 39066

3) Apply Meguiars Showcare Glaze #7

4) Apply Meguiars Polymer Sealant #20

Is there any problem mixing brands? I am planning on using the cleaner wax on the scratch areas only and not all over the car. would the Medium remover be too strong to damage the new car shine and if so, should I stick with the 3Mâ„¢ One Step Cleaner Wax Light Oxidation Remover 39006 to clean the paint up?

I will call Meguiars about the sealant/glaze combo. I think that since the Glaze is a step 3 vs the sealant that is a step 4, the glaze would be applied to first.

I really appreciate the advise. Since this a new car, I don't want to screw it up bad. :bow

Like ShowroomLincoln said, any oils or waxes you apply before a polymer sealant like #20 is counterproductive. Either the cleaners in #20 will remove the oils or if the cleaners aren't strong enough to remove all the oils, #20 will not bond properly to your paint. Sealants and glazes are generally incompatible with each other.

Also, forget about the idea of using 3M's cleaner wax to remove swirls. It won't do squat except cover them up a little. The whole idea of 3M's cleaner wax is that it's a good product for people that want to polish & wax their cars in one step without having to do an extra step with a product like #7 or #9. However, it doesn't do nearly as good a job as using a separate products.

Weren't you going to try Zaino but didn't like the idea of a Dawn wash because it would be too much trouble? Trust me, doing the Meguiar's Show Car Glaze routine requires a whole new level of time and effort.

After prepping your car, you have several options...

If you wish to use #20, use #20 ONLY and no glaze. You can however, top #20 with a NON-CLEANER wax.

If you wish to use #7, that's fine too, but you should use #7 followed by an non-cleaner wax.

I already asked them last week! Here's what they told me:

M20, Polymer Sealant is a cleaner, polish, and protectant. Therefore, when

you apply it after the M07, Show Car Glaze you are removing the glaze. M20

is a great product to use by itself, or you can use the M07 and follow it

with M26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax. M26 contains no cleaners so it will not strip

the Show Car Glaze.

I know, I thought this was a neat idea too if it would work, but I think the balance of opinion is that it won't.

How strong are the #7 cleaners? What about #7 over top the #20? :)

Intermezzo,

You stated that I should not use the 3M products. What products that are available in Toronto should I use to cover up the scratches and to get a good shine?
