Meguiar's Products

New guy here again!!!
since i bought my yukon i have been reading up on certain products
and the one name that keeps popping up is Meguiar's. Is there stuff that
good? I have bought a couple of things from them to try but due to the hurricane i gotta wait. I am mostly looking at stuff in local stores.

meguiars is a great product and has been around forever. I love poorboys products but if you want strictly off shelf meguiars is probally one of your best bets.

Meg's is a good product, however so is Mother's and many other brands. I think a lot of the Meg's reputation has to do with body shop recommendations and the fact that they have been in front of the public for so long. They (Meg's) have done an outstanding job marketing their product in prior years, and that contributes to thier recognition. Don't be mislead - there are other products on the market that work just as well, if not better/easier, than Meg's. The only way to know what you like best is to try it. :)

Yes, their products are good (I don't know what that good means to you). A company doesn't survive that long (a century) selling a complete line of inferior products (they may have some, but I've never owned one). A good marketing plan does help, but everyone has (or should have) one. I don't know about body shop recommendations -- never had one. IMO their reputation comes from large numbers of people using and liking their products. Easy product accessability certainly helps. Meguiar's works to make it as easy as possible for the consumer to pick up thier products, from the stock on the retailer's shelves to online vendors (including their own "factory" store) to pro shops around the country. They put on instructional classes for those so inclined.

And yes, there are other vendors selling good products, but you asked specifically about Meguiar's. If you have a question about specific Meguiar's products, I'll bet there is someone on this board which has it in their kit now or has in the past.

thanks for the replies and information...so i guess i will try them out
and see the results for myself. I got a couple of stuff today. So i will
let you know how it goes...thanks again

I have been a long time Meg's user and have never had any complaints. All their product has worked great. I've got a ichin to try some more Poorboy's product because the stuff I have used has worked great.

ive never found a product of theres i was crazy about . i bought some #9 recently and its like water and very hard to remove . ive tried theyre clay and lots of other stuff . i really wish i could find a product of theres to rant about but i cant . nothing against them but the stuff i get from local dist is way better . easy on easy off. good luck

Meguiars are one of the best off the shelf products
They were among the best ten to fifteen years ago but I believe have slipped a fair bit since then
You will get excellent results using their products but there are cheaper, better, easier to use products around, especially the well know boutique brands mentioned here and at autopia
My garage is meguiars free due to this

Give them a go, you should be pleased with the results

SVR...so what are the cheaper brands that yoiu think are better than meguiar's and where can i find them?

Mr. Smith

Welcome to the beginning of an abusive compulsive disorder. looks like your on your way. as you gain experience you will learn that ever product manufacture can not make a absolute supreme product that will cover all your detailing needs and you will look upon other manufactures to fill these loop holes.

What is most important in the ward of detailing is to master the process, which ever style you chose, by hand on machine. some of this stuff is not just wax on wax off, and there are many products the can not be used buy both methods. Meguiar's is a good starting point as is Mother's and yes even the Turtle. There all good as long as the process is correct.

Good luck and we will see you in the lunch room soon. :gathering

I'm not SVR but Mothers is better and cheaper and can be found in stores locally. In Canada Megs is insanely priced and I refuse to purchase it.

thanks beercan for that bit of advise...well i'm off to Walmart to see what kind of products they have...i will report back

I stand corrected from my eariler comment about not ever owning an inferior (poor performing) product from Meguiar's. The #9 product was a let down for me as well. Though I didn't have any problem with application or removal, it is a mediocre performer at best. The product name Swirl Remover 2.0 is misleading. IME it is neither a swirl remover nor a very good glossing polish. Meg's DC Step 2 is a far better glossing polish IMO. Meg's #80 handles both (smr and gloss) quite nicely.

I would look at:

#83 dual action cleaner polish
#80 speed glaze
#40 vinyl/rubber cleaner-conditioner

I also really like alot of the meguiars detailer line products.

Greg

Poorboys prices are excellent and I found them to be better

#9 only fills swirls, it does not remove them
It's meguiars version of Imperial hand glaze IMO

The endurance tire gel attracts heaps of dust and if you layer it, it leaves a shilacky finish that is hard to remove
If you put it on exterior trim it can weep if the car is left out in the rain

Besides that, most of their range is good.
