Meguiars products?

I am fairly new to detailing as far as doing other people's cars for money. I work at a car wash that offers express detailing services. I have been caring for my own personal vehicles ever since I was old enough to drive though, which has been ~ 15 years. I never really used a machine either until recently when I purchased a PC 7424. And, I've already used a high speed buffer at work a couple of times, even though it didn't seem as fast or powerful as it should be. It also tends to bog down alot unless I buff with the pad at an angle.

All the polishes and compounds that we use are Meguiars. From what I can recall we have bottles labled #2, #3, #5 and #6. The sealant (or wax) that we use is also Meguiars and is light green in color. Anybody familiar with these products and what are your impressions of them?

Also, there is a white pad that is used for the buffer that they call a "spaghetti" pad. I've never heard of this before. What kind of abrasive properties does this pad have? There is also a yellow foam pad for the buffer as well. Which one would you guys use for various buffing jobs?

The white pad is probably a polishing pad, and the orange pad is a light cut pad, im guessing.

The high speed buffer, is it a rotary? If it is, it shouldnt bog down, provided you dont apply an excessive amount of pressure.

I would stick with the PC and refine your technique with that, then move on towards a rotary type machine.

None of the polishes you listed are very aggressive, and im not sure about the green wax, if i had to guess it is the Medallion wax, not bad.

Megs products are fine, provided you know what does what. Stay away from Diamond cut for a while.

The buffer spins in a circle, not oscillates like a dual action polisher. So, does that make it a rotary?

Another stupid question... is a rotary and a circular polisher referring to the same type of machine? And sometimes instead of the buffer bogging down it is skipping along the surface instead. How can I refine my technique to eliminate these problems?

Yes.

Practice, practice, practice. Use an old hood from the junk yard to practice, rather than a customers car.

Do a search on rotary technique on this board...there's been a lot written about it.
