I just did 6 passes for thorough working of the compound. The finish you see came after the fourth or so pass.

Paint was medium-hard.

Thanks! I agree, but would say the new standard all polishes should be up to. This thing was a breeze to use on a DA, and literally no dusting!

So, using a PC7424 XP what size backing? Which pads? I believe Meguair's recommends the W707 Soft Buff 2.0 Cutting Pads 7" but many on this forum recommend using a 5 or 5/12 backer on this machine and, obviously, smaller pads.

Also, after use of the M101, was any finishing applied? Carnuba or synthetics - how was paint protected subsequent to the M101 process?

^^I like using smaller pads period unless I'm doing a boat, because it gives me more control over what I'm doing. Especially if you're using a PC. Bigger pads have a harder time spinning than the smaller ones.

Honestly, M101 works amazingly on all sorts of machinies, pads, pretty much any combo you can think of.

For the PC 7424, I would use a 5 inch backing plate with just about any 5.5 inch pad that you want to use. In the car in the review (pictures, not the video review), there was no finishing polish or protection used. That car was solely used for the review.

On the video review (the dodge viper), m101 was used as a one step, but wax was applied after.

FYI

I talked to tech support yesterday and they said the M101 product was designed for rotary application not DA. However their literature supports using DA but one needs to press harder when buffing.

The tech guy steered me back to the 105/205 process since I will be using a forced DA buffer (PC 7424 XP).

Don't listen to them. M101 has been used with DAs for years! And it works AMAZINGLY on the porter cable style DA.

If you are going to use either 101 or 105, don't use 105. A greatly inferior product to 101.


Also remember that when 105 was introduced to the market, it was also supposed to be for "rotary" only. When so many people used them with dual action polishers, they changed the formula slightly.

Don't be limited by the manufacturer, M101 is an amazing product on just about any machine :bigups

P.S. Also, a PC style DA is not "forced." When people say forced, they mean forced rotation. That means no matter how hard you push, the speed will be the same. The only DA like this is the Flex 3401 :)
 
I use it with a PC DA all the time now. 5" backing plate and 5.5" orange pads. Set speed on 5-6 and press to "slow" the pad rotation. It works GREAT!
