Meguiars is now in the coating business? M101

From what I was told at the Megs booth during SEMA it will be an ASIA only product for a while. It will be sold to Authorized Megs "installers" who will charges from $500US to $1500US for the complete 5 step system.

I'm not surprised this new Meguiars Coating will be initially targeted at Asian countries, because in many places such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia etc....the competititve scenario has changed drastically. More detailing outlets are jumping onto the "coating" bandwagon as it's the easiest way to make big $$$ within the shortest time in the detailing world.

This new competitive envirronment makes Meguiars outlets look "old-school"...still relying on waxes and sealants. In these Asian countries, anything with an outlandish, fantastic marketing story, regardless of how preposterous it sounds, will spark off curiosity and hence, demand.

Everyone wants to make big money, and coatings are the TICKETS to huge $$$.

If Meguiars want to regain market share, it MUST introduce it's own coating to create a level playing field.

We all know that most coatings are mftrd by some "unknown" companies (mostly non-American) that are never renowned as car-detailing products specialists. The packaging is basic, and instructions, even if in English, could be sparse, vague and insufficient.

So, it's heartening to note that Meguiars has woken up, and finally launching it's own coating, which I'm sure will be professionally supported by the usual glitzy graphics, wonderful packaging, crystal clear instructions and fantastic use of glorious adjectives:chuckle::chuckle::chuckle:

This looks very interesting! Supposedly its going to be distributed in Europe only and $200+ if the rumors are true....

What you have in the photo above is NOT M101......

M101 is a Europe only compound like 105 but much more cut! I got to try some out, I think it finishes better than 105. It won't be released to the US because of VOC regs. I like it so much their is no hype for me, I just need to find a European distributor to sell me some!

Cheers,

GREG

I'm curious as to where your hatred for Meguiar's comes from?

Yep. Not sure if I was with you then Bryan or not...when I talked to them about this coating at SEMA they said it was developed for the ASIA market because of the harsher elements that vehicles are subject to there. It did not sound like it was the same type of coating as OC or some of the others listed above.
