Meguiar's Color-X?

Any updates from people that have used the Color-X?
In particular, I'm curious if it stains black plastic trim.

I used this before I came here and have to say I was not impressed...I did it all by hand so maybe a PC application would get better results...on my black car, I found it hard to remove, dusted like a son of gun and it was hard to get out of the trim as well...Can't say that I remember any staining issues.

I gave it to the kid next door

It's about the strongest Cleaner-Wax readily available on the shelf. It's similar to Meguiar's Mirror Glaze M66 Quick Detailer (not Quik). M66 works well with a rotary, DA, regular orbital, or by hand. It will dust a bit, but not as much as ColoRx seems to.

When I was in business, we used M66 as a one-step on "auction clean" cars that just got the quickie 60 minute or less jobs. The protection doesn't last much more than a month, in most cases. Though I've never done it with regularity, some people will polish a car with either ColoRx or 66, then top with a carnauba for more durability.

M66 will stain trim.

I've used Color-x and it does stain the trim

I've used Color-X quite a bit, and I have found that it doesn't stain trim. As long as you actually wipe it off any trim you get it on. I've used it to clean the trim around the windows on my Tacoma (black rubber) and I think it did a fine job. In my book, it's one of the best one-steps available, OTC or boutique brand.

NOTE: I don't get Color-X for it's protective abilities, as I will almost always top it with something else.

It's interesting that different people have had such different results with this product. I have read that it needs to be worked some to get the best results. The dusting doesn't sound good, though.
Being able to use it on black rubber window trim is one of the things I would like.
Klasse AIO does a great job on plastic and rubber trim, but it isn't the most economical product nor is it available locally.
Since I still have plenty of Klasse AIO, it's kind of a moot point at this time anyway.

That's interesting that you don't get stains and actually use it on the trim. On the Meguiar's boards, Mike Phillips says that it may stain rubber or plastic trim, he doesn't say it "will", just it "may" stain.

When I used it, I taped off my trim, but some did seap under the tape, because I didn't get the tape down good in a couple of places, and it did stain. My guess would be because it sat there until I removed the tape, where it looks like you wipe it off right away.

I've only used it a couple of times, so I don't have the experience with it like you do, so I'm sure your technique is allowing it to work for you.

Charles - I've never had a problem with dusting issues using it.

The use of it on trim is something I picked up on here, trying it out after reading posts by folks such as yourself who had good results using something similar (i.e. Klasse AIO) on trim.

That's pretty much how I use it on the trim. I don't allow it to sit on the trim very long in any case.

The dusting I was referring to was in a couple of posts earlier in the thread.
Maybe the reason it works for you on the trim is because of your wipe on, wipe off procedure. Same thing I do with Klasse AIO.

I guess I am lucky because it never dusted for me or stained my trim.

Gold Class will kill trim!
