Meguiar's #16

I was thinking the same. It looked great the day I applied it, but the next day when I had the car out in the daylight, It looked even better than the day I applied it!

Actually, it may rain tonight and tomorrow, so I'll have the chance to do so on Friday or Saturday.



I really don't want it to rain, but based on how I hear #16 beads and is almost "self-cleaning" after being rained on (driving in order to dry off the car), I'm sort of curious to see it in action. But, I'd rather not if possible!

I just did a fresh coat of #16 on my hood and the next day got caught in a shower going up the interstate.The stuff really is amazing in the rain.The water just rolled off the hood and it looked like the hood was staying dry threw the rain.I think the beading is even better than a fresh coat of Zaino.

I was caught in two rainstorms last week and I had #26 on the car. I got to say I was impressed with how the water beaded and slide off on it as well.



After my first storm, you wouldn’t know it had rained on the car. The second wasn't too bad either. However, on Monday I had to wash and wax it with #16. Just because!



I know the sealants are all the rage (zanio, blackfire, NXT, etc), but I've really been enjoying the look, feel, and yes, even the performance of using carnauba waxes this summer.



Just something about applying a carnauba and the overall look that you just can't get with a polymer sealant!

Also, the #16 comes in a really cool looking blue can that is excellent for holding nuts and bolts, or other knick knack items car guys generate.

You are correct--kink 4 spots on the rim and use it for a cool ashtray.





Also, as Cam said, I found the gloss to be best after the 1st wash. Another coat a week later I also found to improve gloss a bit too.

how would you guys rate #16 as a topper for AIO/SG in winter?



Im thinking if I can get 3 layers of SG and 3 of #16, that I would be set for those hard months in winter(3 - 4 months), where I wont be able to wax my car, washes limited to 1 per 2 weeks (unless I get on the qew bandwagon), and tons of salt and sand.

Someone announced that they were leaving it on overnight on a yellow Cavalier, but I don't remember if they checked back in or how it went...

That was me...in both cases. I used a butter knife to apply the #16 to a finishing pad on the PC. I had the PC running at about 3.5 - 4 and spread the #16 "Zaino thin" like mentioned. After letting the #16 set up overnight, I went back out with a MF and more than a bit of apprehention. To my surprise, it wiped off like a premium polymer sealant...no dust, extremely easy and it left a clear, bright finish that was slippery as h@ll.



Everyone is right though...If you apply it too thick and wait too long, it's like trying to take of CONCRETE.

Back when I was topping my SG, I used #16 and it worked well for what you're considering. But SG can last all winter (and then some) without topping, too.

I think you couldn't go wrong with that combo. I haven't used AIO/SG, but I've heard 4-6 month durability (not sure under winter conditions). #16 is supposed to have great durability also for carnauba, as it is a "hard wax".



If you want even more durable, try Collinite 476s. It doesn't have as good a look as #16, but durability is suppose to be a bit better.



I'm thinking of using #20 and #16 for my winter combo if I stay within the Meguiar's line. 2hotford, signs the praises of the durability of #20 and he lives in B.C. Canada.



So, I'm considering the following possible combos for winter:



#20 and 16 - Meguiar's line

AIO/SG and Collinite 476s - Use of Different Mfgs.

or maybe #20/Collinite/#16

I just added a second coat of Poorboy's EX w/carnauba today (first coat this past weekend) and I am probably going to bust out the #16 to finish it off before driving to Kentucky on Saturday. My paint already has a very nice glow, now time to add some WET!

Odds are it won't be.



I am just adding another layer of protection and additional wetness to the paint.
