Meguiar Product Cutting Power Scale

It has to be a great question of economics, on how a company can survive, when what you see, consistantly isnt what you get....

Can you imagine any major corporation, like a car dealer, selling you something that isnt what you thought you bought ? This really irritates the **** out of me !!!!

Point made but, how about Zaino "Polish", more than one variety with various additives needed, or maybe not needed.

3M SMR for dark/light cars. What is Red, light or dark? 3M polishes and compunds aren't always the easiest to figure out either.

All the manufacturers have so many products that you really have to become familiar with their line before you can feel comfortable with it.

Hey, if it was easy, all the professionals would be looking for another job. :D

# 20 has a cleaner in it also, not sure where it would rate though...Maybe 2-3 ?

Or is everything between 9 and 53 rated as a 3 ?

IIRC SMR for dark paint has a finer abrasive than SMR for light paint.

Jeez, i dunno. That QD is pretty mild. It never picked up any coloration from my non-clearcoat red car, whereas every other product on that list, including all the waxes and glazes, has.

I just went out into the garage and gave it a shot; nothing. No coloration, no marks under an oblique light. The finish is cold and smooth. I rubbed that sucker pretty hard, too, like I was trying to remove paint rather than trying to QD.

I'm thinkin' that #4 for the QD is wrong, but wth do I know. Maybe it's abrasive, but with the assumtion that it will be wiped on gently rather than applied with an orbital.

Are you talking about the #66 "Quick Detailer" which is a (supposedly strong) liquid cleaner wax available only in gallon sizes, or are you referring to #34 FI, which really is a QD and not on the list?

Patrick, that's an interesting question. I think this is the first time I've seen the relative strength of #20 before.... I'm really hoping that the list Mmmph provided just means that where there is a series of dots followed by a number, that's the abrasiveness level for that product only and the rest are unknown. Otherwise I'd be really confused by the presence of #26 Hi-Tech on that list, which is supposed to be a cleanerless wax....... :scared

Hi all,

There is a similar thread in the "Detailing" forum

http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18913

In that thread I said I would put together the "Definitive" list of Meguiar's Compounds, Paint Cleaners, Cleaner/Polishes and Pure polishes, I will now include the cleaner/waxes too.

You will have to wait until next week however. That's as soon as I can get to it and it's not going to be a 'quickie' post, it's going to be more of an "article" or "reference guide".

I'm taking Monday off to spend some time with friends visiting from Oregon, and as much as I would love to spend all of my time answering questions on forums, I actually have other tasks at work with higher priority that I must finish before I start working on this one.

In addition, it's not as simple as “this product is more aggressive than this product, which is how most abrasive products are compared.

There are hundreds of different types of abrasives/diminishing abrasives and just as many ways of mixing them to get a desired effect.

I also want to satisfy some of the most demanding enthusiasts by doing my best job.

So if I could ask for a little bit of patience, I promise to write this up for you. :xyxthumbs

Thanks Mike!!

I for one really appreciate you taking the time and effort in making this list. I am looking forward to reading it!!

Thanks Bud!!:xyxthumbs
