Meg's Scratch-X and the PC...effective?

I have some swirls/fine scratches that just aren't getting cut down/removed with my PC and PB's 2.5 SSR on an orange pad...
I've worked some areas 2 and 3 times, I've tried heavy pressure, and with the PC maxed at 6...

Is Meg's Scratch-X a pure polish, or is there fillers in it? Fillers I don't mind (I'll take them out with SSR1), but I need something more agressive than SSR2.5...
And Scratch-X is what I have laying around...
Thanks

:huh:Wow thats very very strange. How deep are these swirls, the 2.5 isn't cutting it down at all :wow:. :hmmm:

If the 2.5 is not working to your satisfaction then I would not think the SX is going to either....its a chemical based polish like PB PP....I am not saying it will not work on your car, just saying that the 2.5 is pretty aggressive....here is what I would suggest....on an area that you want to remove these swirls...take the 2.5 with a cutting pad and work that area, then switch over to SSR1 and a polishing pad work the area again...I would say its the combination of these two that will get you to your desired results....the 2.5 is still leaving some swirls in the paint, that's what you are still seeing...the SSR1 will take those out.

If 2.5 isn't cutting it, I highly doubt Meg's ScratchX will do any better. I've also read that it is not advisable to use it with a machine, as it has a tendency to gum up the pads and be very hard to work.

Beemer has some good advice with the use of the 2.5. I would also suggest maybe making several runs over the same area with the 2.5, and then foillowing up with a lighter polish. If that won't cure it, I highly doubt you'll be able to remove the marring you have with the PC.

I'm getting rid of 80% of the swirls/scratches, but I want closer to 90 to 100%

ScratchX or no?

Scratch X was designed for hand use, but PC is okay to use .
I'd recommend you use scratch X with foam applicator pad, go in all directions, and put some muscle in it...

Scratch-X is not as aggressive as SSR2.5. Therefore, your results probably won't be any better. With a PC, you are not going to be able to go much more aggressive without having to remove a lot of additional marring from the polishing itself. If those are the only two polishes you have, you will probably need to keep at it with the 2.5.

You can also try misting on a little water to the polish after you have spread it out. Water will make some products a touch more aggressive. I would check with Steve first though. He may not recommend it... although it's worked for me (with a rotary buffer)

BTW, many "pure polishes" have LOTS of fillers/oils in them.
