Meg's MF meltown

I was buffing an A4 (hard clear) so I decided to up my GG DA to speed 5. It was actually cutting a bit better when all of a sudden, BAM! to much heat built up and the foam disintegrated. Not a big deal, problem is, the back of the foam pad has fuzed itself with the hook and loop of the backing plate. I've tried heating it with a hair dryer to remove the left on piece (you know, heat put it on, heat will take it off approach) but it didn't work. It's currently sitting in hot water and Dawn soap. Any other suggestions?

What Backing plate were you using with the Meg MF system? The Megs plate tends to run a little bit cooler than the LC backing plates. Also depending on the amount of pressure you were putting on the machine since you were working on such a hard clear coat could have contributed to the melt down.

I was using the one that was supplied with the MF starter kit. Yeah, I'm thinking I was running it too long per section, that setup needs cooling time. Speed 4 from now on.

I've noticed that too much pressure really heats these pads up since I belive they cause more friction than foam pads.

I would call Megs customer service about the backing plate. They replaced a W68BP for me with a few weeks ago with no questions asked.

Keep in mind that we have a very customer friendly return policy. If you purchased the product from us give us a call or email and we will get you headed in the right direction!

Thanks Todd, I'll use this in the future. Meguiars is sending me a new plate, pad and $10 credit since I'm sending in the plate for inspection. Real stand up customer service, glad I took the advice and called.

contact megs...I had a finishing MF pad come unglued and sent them a pic and they sent me 2 pads in replacement.
