Megs mf discs

And if you use an air gun to clean them...nice! I am getting addicted to cleaning them as I work with air! They come out so nice and fluffy- reminds me of the carpet upon which I learned to walk....yellow shag baby!

Thanks Rasky, I never noticed they came in a 2-pack when ordering separate. Just ordered a couple packs of cutting and a pack of finishing so I have some to use after my other ones (inevitably) come apart.
 
The Meg's backing plates are a requirement. Here's why:



Microfiber pads have much greater surface area than a normal foam pad. This can cause the pad to stick to the paint and stop the machine's stroke. Something has to give. The Meg's backing plates are made with micro-hook velcro. The smaller hook allows the pad to give if pushed too hard. With a standard hook pad, the velcro is firmly grasped. When pushed to the limit, the velcro will delaminate.



So, to summarize how to kill a MF pad:

- Turn the machine to speed six (the pad was designed to run at 4800 rpm's for comfort and the lessened heat)

- Use a backing plate with standard hook velcro

- Use excessive pressure, which produces excess heat, which can delaminate the velcro
 
Ok, I'm convinced - I need the W67DA. Now, why don't any of the online retailers I've been ordering from carry it? (autogeek, properautocare, detailersdomain, etc). It's available at the "other" autopia, but I'd prefer not to order from them, much less order a single item and pay the shipping...

I know DI has it but all the others should too if they stock the MF system.





EDIT: I guess AG doesn't have it, which is surprising really.
 
I had my first MF pad delaminate near the edge, called Megs and they sent me a fresh two-pack. Haven't had a problem since so I'm wondering if I may have removed the pad improperly. Going back in forth between the 5.5 & 3+" pads I found myself wishing I had a 4"er for a few spots. I used a 4" pad as a template and cut the pad with the backing problem to size and it worked excellent! So don't toss those pads that delaminate near the edge!

Has anybody got with MEG's to see what they can do? I would seem to think that if your using them correctly this shouldn't happen and they would want to know.

Excellent idea. They should be made aware anytime there's an issue after all the R & D that went into them. It's critical to save the pads too so they can analyze them and diagnose the cause of the failure. Who knows; you might even get a bunch of free samples too...
 
Ya'll convinced me too, although I have not had any issues (so far) with using a LC backing plate, I decided to get the Megs backing plate. Hey, had to order a few more pads anyway!
 
I just finally got my g6, da/mf cut pads, and the megs bp for the system (W67DA). Looking at both g6 and megs plates, the megs hook n loop pattern is much shallower than the plate that comes with the g6. Once one sees the makeup of the da/ mf pads, it begins to make more sense, especially with the cutting pad; if you are using a regular backing pad, and you bear down on the pc, the hook.loop could very well force its way through the narrow mf pad, and cause premature failure.



I guess sometimes, the manuacturers do know what they are talking about.
 
I just got my Megs backing plate and comparing it to the LC backing plate, I don't see any difference in the "depth" of the hook and loop; however, the Megs backing plate is much thinner than the LC backing plate (possibly reducing the amount of heat produced and thus preventing premature adhesive failure?) I will post to see if I have any problems with the new backing plate and the new pads in the near future.
