Meg's #80 Questions

I think some people work it until it changes colors and begins to flash, then remove.

*I* apply(this is for the PC) with a polishing pad at 5.5 until it almost disappears, then move to the next section. Much like a cleaner wax. I do this around the entire vehicle, then remove with MF. I only have to use one MF, it gives whatever paintable "polymer" is in #80 time to set up, and I find it easier to remove once it has dried. I don't think it really matters with #80, it is just whatever works for you.

the Megs polishing pad isnt as aggressive as the edge green. And i wouldnt compare 80 to IP, maybe 80 to FPII but no IP. IP is a bit more aggressive and removes swirls better.

thanks ebpcivicsi....i just posted another thread b4 I read this one..you answered a question for me...i too like working product till it dusts, then like ya say, 'only one MF'....just easier that way.

Well the thing is I feel as if the Propel Light Cutting pad is more like the polishing pad for other brands. Ive had experience with them and it seems as if the polishing pad doesnt do much except for applying waxes with the Propel.

Patrick can you chime in on this.

Youve been PM'd..........

OK thanks, and thanks too to Mosca - my Menzerna should arrive soon, once it does will prep car with that and then Z2 to finish, will be asking some questions once I am ready to go :)

#80 is my go to polish. I use it more than anything else. The best thing about it that it will remove up to moderate defects but finishes so nicely you can go straight to your LSP. #80/#16 is great combo and is fast and easy with excellent results.

I like #80, it does add depth when topped correctly.

Also i am a big fan of the PB SSR line they do have some qualities that #80 doesn't. SSR 2.5 is a wonderful product, easy to use really cleans the paint and marring and most of the time you can go to your LSP.

I'm interested in using #80. I'm thinking of using it on the swirls of a red daily driver. But the car has one-one stage paint. No clear coat. Won't the #80 strip away the red color?

The red goes right through to the primer, so yes, you will see color coming off onto the pad, but you won't "rub off" the red unless you go right through the paint.

Think of the red paint that comes off as "dead paint". Much of what comes off is just oxidized paint that you want off of there anyhow. By the time you eliminate all the swirls, etc. you *will* take off a bit of paint, but it won't be too much and everyting will be fine.

As BigLeegr said, you'll see a lot of red on your pads, but don't freak out, this is normal and you won't be taking off as much as you think you are.

Just to give a little perspective, the same thing happens when you use it on bc/cc paint. It's just that the paint is clear so you don't really notice it. So when you use products on single-stage, just expect you'll probably see some color come off. This can happen even when you are just waxing it. It's pretty normal. :)

Does this stain your pads to the point where it won't wash out?

Should you expect to have stained pads?
