Meg's #40 question.

I love silicone !!
I recently got a gallon of meg's 40 for engines and interior. I've read that some othere members dilute the #40 w/water for the engine compartment. Did I read this right or did I just ruin 16oz. of product by mixing it w/water?

I'm guessing that I would use it straight for interiors. I love PB NL but some customers like the glossy look.

The reason I'm asking is I mixed up a batch but haven't used it for engines but used it for black bumper moldings and it didn't come out good at all. kinda streaky. I think I made a rookie mistake. Any help will always be appreciated. Aloha
 
I do not think #40 is water based. It's pretty oily when I apply it to tires, that's why I dedicated it to tires and outside trim only. When it runs out I will be getting PBs BNB and Adam's VRT.
 
Yeah, I think it is oil based. I guess the streaking problems are from the water thats now in there. I have NO idea how well it would work, but you could pour it out into a clear container and see how it seperates... maybe you could suck out the water. lol It might be worth a shot.


I dont think the streaking problem would be as present on engines... with the rubber hoses and all of that.


And yes, use it straight for the interior. You can also buff the excess off later if it is too glossy.

Thanks guys , I was thinking that it was oil based and shouldn't be using water with it. I'll " write it off " as lab test. LOl. Maybe I should put out a post as to what NOT to do..

Don't "write it off" just yet. You can use it with water 50/50 for wheel wells and engine....If I were you I would get one bottle for straight and one for 50/50 mix. Only use the straight on trim and interiors...it will streak on those if diluted as treestand said, but definately don't throw it out. I always thought of #40 as water based :dunno , but regardless it can be diluted and is what me and many others use almost exclusively.

I absolutely agreee. #40 is water based and can be dilluted to meet the needs of the surface it is being applied to. For wheel wells and motors I go 50/50, for exterior trim and interior pieces I use it full strength.

#40 is a great product IMO and I never go on a detail without it.
