Megs #16 Review

Yes, it's a straight carnauba, as Eliot said similar to 476S. I guess it applies like #26, it just doesn't have quite the pop of 26 but lasts much longer.

OK, thanks, Mike. I can work with that...just like to know what I'm getting myself into. I guess I didn't realize that was the basic formulation as I'm unwilling to re-wax every 4 or 5th wash.

FWIW, I've never been impressed by the durability of #26. The initial appearance, like so many others, is great when 1st applied...but that never lasts more than a few weeks. I may end up going back to a sealant on this car.

Perhaps you misunderstood, #16 lasts a long time, it was better for me last year than Collinite IW. #26 has a lot of short-lived shiny stuff in it; #16 isn't like that at all...it just applies the same way...in that if you put it on too heavy you will be sorry later...

#16 is a solid winter wax. If you garage your car it'll easily last the winter. Like Accumulator mentioned, #16 looks best on lighter colored cars. I just used it on a pearl white Caddy and Acura. It removes easily from hard trim and moldings that I prep first with AIO.

Another solid wax for dark colors is the little mentioned 3M Perfect-It III Show Car Paste wax. I have a couple tins of the pre-VOC and it is stunning on dark colors. Durability is very good and has a nice pineapple fragrance (no crayon smell :) ) I use it regularly on my car that sits outside 24x7. It makes the red look candy apple.

That's another one that I like on silver :D In fact, that's about the only thing besides #16 that I ever put on my wife's A8.

And yeah, #16 lasts longer than 845 IW for me too. It's probably the best paste wax for by-machine application, due in part to the way it turns liquid with a little agitation...easier to do effectively by machine than it is by hand.

Compared to collinite 476s? Is it better or not?

#16 is better durability-wise but inferior looks-wise. But I don't think that a) most people could really see the difference and/or b) that anybody would notice/care on some paints. Still, I quit using 476S on my wife's silver A8 during the winter because it just looks *that* much better with #16...but hey, that's just us.

#16 is brighter and sharper IMO, if those words mean anything to you (I sometimes find it hard to describe such stuff in a meaningful way).

Bence , How would you compare it to FK PW ?

Fallguy, I had to learn to love the look of #16. I bought it because I wanted a piece of history in my cabinet.

But I was unable to love its appearance - especially after the Geneva experience.

However, that thing bugged me so much that finally I decided to play with it quite extensively. The result: I love my #16 now. I always apply 3 layers; no more, no less.

It cooperates well with basically every machine - yes, even with the rotary. I let one coat to set for around 20-30 mins, and to cure for 24 hours. The surface gets richly nice, glossy, but at the same time reflective. It is a very balanced look, and it has the right combination of everything.

Pink is a more "obvious" wax. It has instant shine, very bright, very chromelike, yet deep and wet, and improves its already very impressive look even furhter after it cures.
