Meg#80 and 3M III MG 05937

MG removed Holograms from my rotary+cutting pad+3M PI-III (05933) using the cyclo and polishing pads.

#80 has also removed hologramming from a black LSE I did a while back also using the cyclo+polishing pad.

They both seem to work good for removing the defects you are talking about.

I sometimes forget that all the paints I work on seem pretty hard, perhaps this colors my opinions as to how aggressive some products are. But I've used the 05933 on the Jag's very soft lacquer and it sure wasn't all that aggressive.

Note that people say it does in one pass what #83 would take more passes to accomplish. Then consider that most of the time, people *do* use DACP more than once to get things just right (at least by PC).

I work 05933 sorta like #80, that is, until it's almost dry, but *not* until it really *is* dry.

I think the abrasives in the 05933 *do* diminish, just not as much as those in some other products. If you work it right (plenty, but not to the dusting point), it'll break down pretty fine (nothing like #80 though). If you don't work the 05933 long enough, you'll get a pretty dramatic example of what the abrasives are like *before* they break down ;) IMO the only "trick" to using 05933 is knowing when it's broken down. Not very hard to get a feel for, you'll get it by the end of the first panel.

Can't comment on the 3M products, but have used 80 once and had fantastic results, here's my recent first detail using 80 to remove some pretty significant swirls:

Just thought it'd shed some light on what 80 is capable of if nothing else. Something should be said for the fact that I was able to get these type of results using 80 for the first time, a PC for the tirst time, and on a single pass!

Usiny my rotary with a polishing pad and a speed about 1000 to 1500 tops I was able to get out swirls on horizontal portions of a beater car using PI III MG. I think this product gives the best results by rotary. Most recently I've been using followed it by FPII for good measure via PC or Cyclo too.

Bill, is the finish good enough after PI III MG via rotary to go to an LSP?

Caraman,

From my practice with it via rotary: on a hood, trunk and roof, yes, I would say so. However, on my cars,I use a Cyclo nearly exclusively. Lately ,for the kind of marring visible only under intense halogen lighting, I've found PI III MG followed by Menzerna FPII via white LC polishing pads to do very well :up
