Me and OCP get OWNED

usdm

I'll figure it out....
MeBe, all black. Has not been well cared for, but I figure what the heck

First 2 pics are as I got the car. For some reason, these could almost

look like after pics:

Second two pics after the the decon:

Next pics after I did a few passes w/ OCP and an orange LC pad, and another

set of passes / LC white pad and OCP. All passes were doen with

a rotary @ 1500 RPMs Under indirect light, and even the hard flourescents,

the paint looks great. But as you can see, when it comes out into the light,

it looks just as bad as before I even got started.

The owner came back and was impressed with the way the car looked

(all I did was a wash and work on the hood). But time was against him, so I

have the car for all of Sunday. Looks like I'm gonna have to get Menzerna

and maybe a wool pad on this badboy.

Wish me luck.

Orange pad aint going cut it. Hit with Wool or Yellow w/ssr2.5 or if you have ssr3 go for it.

Then hit wit MFP or SSR1 to remove those fine marring. I done few cars that's worse than that MeBe. Good luck

p.s I use M PowerGloss for serious swirls :p

a yellow wool pad would knock those out in no time . I like yellow wool followed by yellow foam for heavy swirls . combo works every time - I like it , I like it a lawt

OMG: That marring looks like the Black Jag I'm working on for my neighbor (automatic car washes and hand washing with a brush "in circles yet")

I agree with the others and would say lose the LC Orange Pad (I did 4 passes with the same combination and only got marginally improvement)

I ended up using a Meguiars Wool Cutting pad W-4000 @ 1500 RPM (worked the polish for awhile so I would not need as many passes) then followed with the Orange Pad @ 1400 and finished off with a 3M Waffle Poishing Pad @ 1000 RPMs.

Some spots I ended up getting fustrated (as it was blistering hot out) and went with the same process but used Hi-Temps HCL instead.

I have one more panel to do but am wondering if I should wait for my sample of the Optimum Compound David is sending me. Just for a comparison to Hi Temp HCL

Well, guys, this is without question the worst I've ever encountered.

I had actually started working on this car on Friday. I had nothing else

but some and white and orange pads, and OCP. it was way too hot to

work outside, so i did what I could under the lights. Honest Abe, guys,

the car looked incredible under the 1500 and flourescent lamps. But when

I finally got it out in the sun, my heart just fell through my pants.

Today I started from scratch at approx. 8 am, and finally ended about

a little after 7pm.

After. But even though it looked pretty good inside, when I got it outside

it still looked bad. So I had to suck it up, and try to do the rest outdoors.

My main concern was since I was using the rotary, combined with the heat

from the overhead sun, i might do some serous damage. So i took my time

and kept the surfaces wet with S&W, FI, amd water in a spritzer.

000_0891.JPG

Some other pics of my progress. Before I was throgh half of the car,

It got so hot that I did not trust trying to keep polishing with the rotary

outside. So I started to pull the car in, buff some, then pull it out

to inspect.

Before pic of hood in the earlier post.

After pic. This time, I used the Powergloss with the maroon pad. Follwed

up with FPII w/ yellow megs pad. Kept the rotary speed below 1500 rpms.

By the time I was done (almost 3 hours buffing alone), the sun was no longer

directly overhead. So these are shots after some of the buffing stages.

I'm sorry I could not get better shots, but I was wrapped up in trying to

get the car done. I did learn that Powergloss and FPII can be used in sunlight,

but discretion is very key. I really wanted to go to the OCP, but I figured

I better keep it simple, and stick with the Menzernas until I can get a better

grasp on what I can do with it.

The owner came for it but I did not get any feedback from him on the

job. But looking at it under the street lighting still showed some very

light marring on the hood. But the carlights reflecting off the side panels

just looked great. It definitely came out better than I expected it to.

Overall that was a pretty ugly car and it most likely needed a wool pad to level the paint down to a uniform stage. Sure you would swirl the heck out of the paint but as long as you have the paint level and uniform then the swirl removal is easy. Many times removing the halo scratches are more difficult and tedious than removing halograms.

I feel you did a great job considering what you had to start with, if I was the cars owner I would be very please, good job :buffing:

It's gorgeous now! Nice work.

Looks like my car right now. Looks like I have alot of work cut out for me. :) Glad I have SSR so i can work in the sun though.

I really think your not work the polish enough.

this was with a yellow edge 2000 pad and a PC you have to work this polish in for a good long time and you'll get great results...

Dont you think PowerGloss its kinda sticky? Anyway, it came out pretty good, I guess. :xyxthumbs

Thanks for the feedback.

Actually, I did not find Powergloss to be very sticky while working in and out of the

sun. But then again, I was using water to cool down the paint, and either S&W or

FI to remove the residue. I planned on using a water/ iso mix, but i did not want to

have it flash so fast that cleaning would be harder to do. S&W and FI seem to have

more lubrication, so I stuck with those instead. I do however find that Powergloss

does get a little sticky during the colder weather months, or it may be that I did not

work well enough on dead cold paint. No probs in the heat; just tried to keep the temp

at least warm if nothing else.

Here's some more pics. First one is the fender as I got the car.

This next one shows the fender after a pass with Powergloss and a megs maroon

pad. While it may not look it, I made serious progress going that route.

In the next pics, I tried to show how well the black paint reflected in day

and night. But as you can see my skills in photographhy have not really improved

that much. Hopefully you get the idea.

Day shot after Powergloss and FPII. Non factory installed orange peel included.

If you look real close, you can see me in the middle trying to get a good

focus.

000_0941.JPG

Side profile. I had to use the green wool on some rougher spots that would

not even out with the Megs or LC yellow pads. But so much wool ended up

flying all over the place, getting into my hair and nose. I had to wash the

car all over agin to get all the wool strands out the nooks and crannies.

While i was at it, I gave my face and hair a quick hose down as well.

000_0907.JPG

Water beading after before the wash. This is after doing PG and FPII

000_0910.JPG

I have to go back and do some touch up work on some sections that I missed,

so hopefully i will be able to get some better shots. I'm also going to try out the

FK1 wash n' wax, to see how well it works with Pink Wax already on the paint.
