MD/VA Boat Detailing

One of my buddies owns a boat and told me that if I could find a way to advertise boat detailing that I could make a lot of money $300-1000.00/boat. I was wondering if anyone has any experience doing this?

how to market?

what to include in a flier?

people to talk to?

etc

I live 2 hrs from the Cheasapeake Bay in MD, but am willing to take that drive for a solid amount of money. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance !

I own a 31' sailboat and it takes a lot of time to keep it looking good. Most boats are 10 plus years old and have spent every day of their lives out in the weather. A cleaner/wax will not do it. A cleaner, polish and a wax is the easy part. Exterior wood could take days. Weather is important since you cannot move boats in the shade. You also better know the difference between gelcoat and awgrip.

Your biggest problem is that most marina's will not let you in their yard, since they have people on their payrol who do this kind of work. I'd try advertising in local boating magazines. SpinSheets in Annapolis would be a good place to start for sailboats.

I would not let anyone touch my boat unless they were recommended. Therefore getting the first few jobs could be difficult.

Good Luck
