After reading some of the posts in CalgaryDetail's "I need help" thread, I had some second thoughts about my addiction.
Some examples.

Used almost exclsively Meguiar's products for years and was alway happy with them. Do I use them now?
A few, but not many.

Used Meg's Medallion Paint Cleaner and Paint Protection for at least 10 years and thought it was a great combination. Do I use it now?
No.

Used 3M Show Car Paste Wax for some time and loved the look.
It's now history.

Used Klasse AIO and UPP and loved it.
More history.

Used Klasse AIO and Meg's NXT Tech Wax with good results.
Not today.

Klasse AIO and Collinite Insulator Wax took care of one winter. Great combination.
Also one I don't use today.

Optimum Poli-Seal replaced the KAIO and I'm still using it.

Dura Gloss #601 PBA, #105 TPP and #951 Aqua Wax took care of last winter and I guess it would still be my "go to" combination, but.....
When Opti-Seal hit the market, I had to try it. Another great product.

Over the years I have used Zaino, Finish First, and Liquid Glass with good results, but all of them were history long before I ever used them up.

The OTC products were so many that I couldn't even begin to count. And yes, Nu Finish was one of them.

QD's are another weakness of mine. I must have at least 6 right now and three of them are gallons.

Interestingly enough, the one product that I have tried in the last several years that I still use regularly is Poor Boy's Spray & Wipe. It is a product that I wasn't at all comfortable with when I first heard about it, but I'm definitely a believer now.

Nothing wrong with people's tastes changing.

If we didn't try different things then there would be a reason to try and improve and introduce something new like say a sealant onto the market.

haha. Im glad im not the only one addicted to this.. the way i look at is everyone needs a hobby. Here in canada we can only detail for a few monts then some days in the rest.. I might as well collect the products while im not able to detail...
 
Not attempting to derail your thread, but you raised a question for me.

What is it about the OS product that prompted you to replace KAIO? And, along the same thought, have you tried PB's Pro Polish? I have not tried the Optimum, but do find PB's offering a viable alternative to KAIO in terms of correction, however PP has no protective components.

Back to the topic, I feel certain that far more people enjoy trying multiple products than those who try a single product line and instantly find their "nirvana". :)
 
I find myself trying new things all the time. Although I rarely try newer OTC products anymore, however I used to.

I have tried Nufinish, and others...I remember one that they gave you the applicator and this clear liquid and you rubbed it over the car, and when it wnt on it looked like you were spreading a layer of shalack on your car. Can't remember the name.

In answer to #1.
It seemed like I was having to use a more abrasive polish before the KAIO. I started using Meg's #80 and could go directly to a wax, but still felt I needed the KAIO or at least a paint cleaner prior to a sealant. The Poli-Seal was recommended by a friend and it seems to be abrasive enough for minor correction and leaves a little protection that seems to work good as a base for a sealant or wax.
Just one less step.
I also finally had to agree with those that said the KAIO protection wasn't much.

For #2.
Yes I have and it does a good job.

And #3.
Like you said, the PP doesn't leave any protection. That wasn't a big problem since the KAIO, the PP, and the PS are followed by a LSP, but having some protection left by the PS seemed to be a good thing.

Getting all hung up on a certain product line has never appealed to me. I have had pretty good luck with the many different products I have tried and probably would have no problem going back to most any of them.

The quality of products has changed over the years, as well as the clear finishes..I think that its natural to try new stuff and find new combo's that you like better.....if you look at my thread about what not to use...the 3M stuff that was my go to is now in the trash can.

I will say that the PB line continues to be the go to and has been for the last several years.

I also like WG alot
 
hi. my name is dave. i am a compulsive detailer.
i have also been on a car care product binge as of late. $$ i like to try new products. poorboys spray and gloss was awesome. have some aqua wax on the way to try. have a gallon of griots garage speed shine QD. just got two cans of cd2 engine detailer (none better) in the mail today. i like to keep stocked up. hate to run for anything. and a lot of the products have to be mail ordered. my weekend detail session's on the rubicon are therapy in a crazy world.

Absolutely.
With the advent of the internet many products that I would never have heard of became part of my stash. Prior to that, it was difficult to even find some of the better(?) products in my area. Turtle Wax, Rain Dance, Finish 2000 were the ones that were easy to find.

Strike the Rubicon reference for me and you pretty well described my thoughts. I tell people that taking care of the vehicles is my golf. :)

AaaHa,I know one popular wax that you haven't tried yet ,or I didn't see it on that list,and that is Mother's pure canrauba wax,not cheap but a great wax.would you care to try and give us some feed back?:lmfao

It was covered in the blanket OTC products reference. :) And yes, the Mother's line has a lot of good products in it.
