masking tape

getting a new 2012 camaro next week. it is the 45th anniversary edition with vinyl stripes down the middle. i want to polish it up with some bfwd pretty quick. i'm also planning on getting a clear bra on the front bumper and the side rear gill area (right in front of the rear tires). i can't decide if that's going to look bad or not though? i've heard it's an easily rock-chipped area.

so really i have two questions: one, do i polish the car and then get the clear bra installed? does it matter? i just want the whole car to have the same luster.

secondly, i have always fell victim to bad masking and had white polish creep up into corners of the car. where are the best places to mask, and can i just use any masking tape? those vinyl stripes are going to be particularly tough. i'm guessing this might be a couple of day's work.

btw, prepping with optimum polish, then follow with bfwd. got any other suggestions on the black metallic paint? (technically called carbon flash metallic) thanks!

Hey man if you're gonna do the clear bra, I'd say do it for a whole panel so you have no lines to worry about. That Camaro looks sickening by the way. Very nice.

Congrats on the car! My brother has a white 2011 Camaro. I love the lines and angles on these cars.

Definitely clear bra the whole front bumper. My brother doesnt have any on his and the bumper already has some marks in it.

This may be a little OCD but I would detail the sh** out of that front bumper. Get it looking pristine then take it off the car and have a shop wrap the whole entire thing. Once its wrapped you cant touch the paint again so might as well go all out.

Like Mr. Tomorrow stated, you dont want to see lines. You can clearly tell when cars have clear bra on them. I love when people just get the bottom half of their door done. The edge of the film sticks out like a sore thumb. The only way it would go on my car is by wrapping the whole panel so you dont see an edge.

they say the new EPA standards for paint actually make just about all new cars' paint very thin. there have been a lot of complaints about the camaro in particular, mostly because some of the body parts like the area in front of the rear tire, stick out some.

1. does anyone think the rear gill having a clear bra on it on the side would stick out like a sore thumb?

2. what about polishing prior to the clear bra install, do i need to? i want all of the car to shine the same.

3. on a brand new car from the dealer (black), i was hoping optimum's hyper polish (i also have the optimum's compound) followed by BFWD would be a good choice? should i use the compound instead of/in addition to the hyper polish?

4. lastly, how would you go about masking the car?

thanks for the help.
