I have a up and coming full detail project on this Maserati, after inspecting, things were typical, scratches, swirl marks ( no concern in that area) here is my concern, this is number 39 of 60 made, personally ordered and made for this customer......the control knobs, panels and door handles have a gummy/sticky feel, customer thought it might be from the heat, ( had a great phone conversation with Mike Phillips) with some great ideas..........anybody else dealt with Maserati with problem like this? If so what di you use to remove this Gummy like stuff? Dust and lint even sticks to it.....here are pictures

I have run into this problem on literally 100 Ferrari's (355 thru 430's) and Maseratis.

There is a lot of debate about what causes it (chemicals, heat, etc) but the only way to fix is to refinish.

I finally got a couple of good answers, Well there are a couple of proven methods, just got off phone with Dr. G and several methods from other detail forums......

Thanks

Good luck with it. Hope client is understanding

I set the expectation upfront, meaning I wasnt going to promise anything but try my best to remove, I have had some pretty good answers from arounf the detail world, soapy warm water, optimum opti clean, water with microfiber....I"m trying my best to win this customer, he has about 6 other exotic cars that I wanna get my hands on too, 2 Lambos, Diablo, Contach, Viper and a 911...........

er

sure beats any guesses I cudda made (only one having been the tornador)

I posted on ag, google sticky no more, that is what they do.

With Sticky no more ,,,you have to ship the parts odd, I am sure the customer is not going to take all the parts out of his car............but here is what I did find out.....several solutions, warm water with mild detergent ( wool lite) Goo B Gone and Optimum Opti Clean

Just be very carefull with any lettering that may be there.
This is why we say, drive that way,pay that way.
A competent service shop should be able to have the parts refurbished. If the car is as important as you say, that is the way to go as Todd said. I see this all the time,as I am fortunate to do a lot of Ferrari and masserati .you run the risk of making the problem worse
Good luck!

Please update if the idea works. I have been able to clean some of the stick material off with OPC before, but you are rubbing away the thickness of the coating, which will remove lettering, etc.

At first you will see the microfibers sticking into the sticky surface (until you remove all of it). The problem is that it is believed that chemicals are the cause of the problem. In cases were I have been able to remove some of the sticky material, the remaining material softens and becomes sticky shortly thereafter.

I have personally recommended clients send their parts to STICKYNOMORE, and those who did were very happy with the outcome.
