Marring while buffing???

hey guys - just wondering if any of you have seen this/know how to prevent it



when i compound/polish, while i buff w/ the microfibers, it appears that i add marring to the paint



i thought my cloths were totally clean - i always wash them after use etc and air dry them



any ideas???
 
i had the same problem....mainly with meguiars polishes (which is the reason I only use them on light colored cars now) but people said it could be that I worked the product too long and it dried and I was carrying along dry polish marring the area I just polished perfect....try adding some QD to help with the removal of the compound
 
Marring can occur easily with a mirofiber rag and polishing cream and a freshly buffed surface. Although the micofiber can be new or clean it can still occur. Normally light colored cars do not show this marring look (like toyotaguy said). Try appling some carnuba paste wax over the spot, this should help.
 
Two ways you might be causing the marring: 1) the application media and/or, 2) the product.



I'd test the MFs on the data side of a CD, which is generally softer than most automotive paints. If it mars the CD I wouldn't use it on my paint.



The product can be more complicated. Some harsh products just don't break down properly without the heat/etc. from a rotary. Some products that *are* OK for hand/PC use are nonetheless tricky; you have to work them long enough for them to break down, yet not so long that they dry completely lest their residue/"dust" cause micromarring. And some products just don't work well on some paints for some reason, sometimes because of the "otherwise mild" product's initial cut (#80 comes to mind). *And* some products just don't seem to work well for some people, usually a matter of technique.



I'd rather try products until I know what works for me as opposed to struggling to "master" products that I don't find user-friendly. There are a *lot* of choices out there these days.
 
I had this same problem on a customers bmw 2002 yesterday...it puzzled the hell outa me, especially cuz it was a light red :rolleyes: I did fill it with a carbuna and it sorted it self out naturally :cool:
 
Glad the carnuba worked for you. A lot of peole think you have to buy a bunch of fancy stuff to detail, but the reality is you don't it's just knowing what several things to use for different situations.
