The MB S500 has one. I love it! You keep it in drive when you're in traffic, but when a jealous loser pulls up to you in his hooptey, you tap the **** knob left and it's in first ready to go. For a 2 ton sedan it's pretty fast, it'll catch in second.
Now it's this way with the benz, but I don't know about all of them. When you manually put it in gear, that means that the gear you selected is the HIGHEST gear it can possibly be in. So, I can put it in 4th and it'll still start out in 1st and go through the other 2 gears before it gets to 4th. Also, if it's in 5th at 4000 rpm, it won't let you drop it into 4th to put it past redline. It's basically idiot proof.
