Hey guys, fairly new to autopia and the whole detailing scene.



As the topic says, i am from malta...the tiniest island ver...just below sicily...and italy , in the mediterranean.



Zaino...Mothers... etc are not found here...however...meguiars is...and i went out and bought loads of their stuff....works brilliantly... however i never hear you guys talkin about using it....are they not that good?



anyone been to malta...or uses meguiars?

Actually, some people here are very big Meguiar's fans. In general, they usually make good products. Which products do you have, exactly? Mirror Glaze Pro line, regular consumer line, etc.?

I've seen Malta from the ship I was on (Med cruise, 1990, USMC). It is small, but in a nice area.

I use Meguiars products. I personally use #9 SMR, #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax, Gold Class Wax, Quik Detailer, Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, Natural Shine Rubber/Vinyl Protectant, as well as others. I think they are good products for the money, and they are locally available to me. A lot of product selection comes down to personal preference. I also use products from Mothers, Eagle One, etc... I think proper prep and attention to detail are more important than just product selection. But then again, I don't enter any concourse events with my daily driver!

I've been to Malta a long time back, 6 years I think. Beautiful!



I use meguiars too, very good stuff. Just need to know what to use and how to use it properly. Make sure you use Quick Detialer helps alot between polishing and waxing.

Just so you know what i have....meguiars and cars wise..... settle down... it'll be a long post hehehe.



Cars :



2002 Alfa Romeo 166 - Dark blue metallic - lotsa swirls from carwashes :angry :mad:



1999 Renault Megane Convertible - Lightish blue metallic in great condition.



1969 Mercedes Benz 280sl Convertible -Gold metallic, great condition.



1993 Suzuki Vitara Jlx Lwb - Metallic Jade Green...never really garaged and so it kinda lost some of the clearcoat.



2003 Nissan X trail - 400km as i just picked it up 4 days ago!!! its metallic Silver/zinc.





as for meguiars i have..





1) Gold Class Shampoo

2) 2 Terry Cloths

3) 4 Applicator Sponges

4) Quick Wax Spray

5) Cleaner Wax liquid

6) Gold Class Wax

7) High Endurance Gloss Tire Gel.

8) not meguiars but autoglym...hydra flexi blade....amazin stuff.



i am really happy with meguiars...but if there is somethin that gets better results...i'd be more than happy to get somethin else.



How good is zaino for newbies like me....easy to use?

My wife's dad was originally from Malta. Their family name is Fenech, which is quite a common maltese name, I understand.



How do you like the Alfa 166? I have a 164, and it is a great car. Unfortunately, we can not get the 166 (or any new alfa) here in the states :(



I have used Zaino on my cars, but don't anymore. The problem I had with it is that you need to use their system exclusively. I am currently using mostly Mother's products now, with some Meguiars as well. Am quite happy with the results.

Luke, to get better results you probably want to look into Meguiar's selection of preparation products. I noticed you do not own any abrasive polishes, glazes, or pure non-cleaner waxes (although your Gold Class may be close enough). As with all detailing jobs, good preparation is the secret.



If you have access to Meguiar's Mirror Glaze pro line in the biege bottles it may be better, but they sell some consumer products that may work for you as well, such as Body Scrub (their strongest consumer product I think), Scratch-X, and the 3 step Deep Crystal system, which is composed of a mild polish, a glaze, and a pure wax.



Be sure to check out the advice and techniques in the Learn! link at the top if you haven't already and make full use of the Search feature. You may not be able to get all those products, but the general principles are the same and applicable. HTH!

The Meguiar's products are great, I like the DACP and their pads esspecially. And it's great that I can just run down to the paint shop and pick up what I need- not sure if that is how it is for you.

Thanks Reflector, its gotten alot nicer since then, roads are bein done up more and there is alot more promenades being built and all. Should come down one day with your detailing stuff :P

Ye i know the name fenech...which means 1 of 3 things...she could either be a) related to the prime minister........b) related to one of the richest familes in malta...they own the hilton and loads of hotels and restaurants or c) she could be just another fenech! hehe there are loads of them here hehe.

Interesting fact? Fenech is pronounced exactly like Fenek...which is Maltese for RABBIT....u can a) tease her...or b) make her dress up :P hehehe

Well main reason, is that i don't wanna ''take off'' layers of paint... i'd rather put on...however i was wondering whether the

Deep Crystal Polish was abrasive or ''bad'' for new or old car paints...





i was wondering whether this would be a good process....



1) Water

2) Gold Class Shampoo

3) Water

4) Scratch X where needed

5) Quik Detailer

7) Quik Wax

8) Gold Class Wax





I was wondering, when should i use the cleaner wax? and what other products should i use?

I use Meguiar's products ( the pro line in the beige botles), Mothers, Wax Shop, Liquid Glass, S-100 and other car care products. It depends on the vehicle I'm detailing and what the client wants.



BTW, the Maltese Cross is one of the symbols for firefighters here in the US. Here is my Fire Departmen't patch with a modified version of the Maltese Cross and the City seal...

DACP meguiar's Dual Action Cleaner Polish



I have (had) some for sale in the aBay section a few weeks back. I don't know how much it would be to ship to Malta though!
