this is the 2nd time my makitas power cord shorted out at tne butt on the job. last time i had it repaired but does anyone know of a fix i can do myself?

any help and pics would be greatly appreciated.

And while you're at it go get yourself something other than the Makita replacement. They make a good machine but lately those power cords have been a problem.

Or just buy a DeWalt. I can't stand the silly slow start trigger on the Makita. Just kidding, you should be able to locate a cord fairly easily, pop it open and only a couple of screws holding it in. Best of luck.

crack it open and it should be fairly simple to replace

here is a diagram if you forget how things go back in

Sweet thanks Eric. I cracked it open already and fixed it but now a new problem which i also had last time. The speed dial spins freely like the wheel on the price is right LoL I need to figure out how to get that back to normal.

I'm just going to stop using the Makita bag. That is the reason why that cord fails because the bag they give you to hold the Buffer bends the rubber piece at the end and eventually kinks the cord causing it to fail

I will need to get a spare cord at some point though because this cord just got a little shorter. Home depot has some for like $10 so i'll probably get a spare at some point in time.

Thanks everyone for the help.

You lost the spring, #27 on the parts list and maybe #26 what they call a rivet.

Really? Only spring i seen was the large one and that one i still have:

Got that one. Guess i need to drop it off again to have it fixed or just that anyways.

I fixed the hard part or the major issue that is which was the wire.

Go buy a 12 ga. extention cord. I replaced mine with a nice one I got at home depot. It's a 25' one so now I hardly even need to use an extention cord with it anymore unless I need to get on top of some SUV or RV/Boat. Makes life a LOT easier with the Makita.

yeah im going to swing by and take a look to get a backup cord. As of the now my makita is fixed as far as the power wire goes but the speed dial on the other hand is now the new issue LoL

so the verdict is if you guys look at the diagram eric posted the link to . . . i lost the rivet that goes in the spring. i believe its either # 26 or #27

took it to the shop that fixed it before and now they dont do in house fixes, they would need to send it to makita for a 0.25 part.

do you think i could use a rivet from maybe home depot or some place? i have the spring.

Where are you? There are Makita certified repair shops all over the country.

Robert

Hawaii! All i need is a rivet the machine is not broken. I went to the place that fixed it before and their company no longer does repairs.
