making your own waterless formula spray

Yeah, good idea. But what if my homebrew spray works you know? Ill test it on a small part of my own car, and use real products for customers in the meantime.

Yeah, a spray... The whole point is to eliminate hoses and buckets. Just a dust off and then spray and wipe with multiple microfiber cloths.

You're telling me that these products aren't meant to be sprayed on? Because if thats true, we're back to square 1. :(

Why do you need a spray? With ONR all you need is a bucket, mitt, and drying towel. Get an 8oz sample. With that you should get 5-8 washes. That's atleast 100-160. With that money go to autogeek. Buy a gallon of onr and whatever else you need to bring the total to 100 and use the free shipping code.

Why is a spray so necessary? if your not worried about swirls or marring than you might as well buy a gallon of a QD or something.

You really can't compromise with this. If getting the dirt off is your only priority than you might as well wipe it down with some water and an mf. If you want to do it the right way, get a bucket and some onr

Besides, if your going to do it right with a waterless wash, any money saved from not using a bucket or onr is going to be lost when you figure in the amount of quality mfs you'll need.

No matter how you spin it, if you want to do a quality job your going to have to spend some money

Really I guess ONR or QEW should be called a "hose-free" wash, you still have to use some water. The only product that I think doesn't use some added water is that Chemical Guys ONE isn't it??

Well, I always refer to QEW/ONR and the couple of other competitors as "rinseless" washes. I think things like Pb's Spray and Wipe could be considered "waterless" washes as you don't have to add any water.

Yeah, I am looking for spray and wipe kind of products. My ENTIRE marketing scheme focuses on the fact that "no" water is used. The reason being is because its faster, I can justify the lower price I charge, and all I have to carry to a job is a spray, vacuum, window spray, wax spray, microfiber towels, and scent. It all fits neatly in a carry box. No big hoses, jugs of auto wash, etc.

I am looking at "dilute-able" waterless sprays, that way I can make it last longer and have it in bulk. eBay is being good to me lately...

Oh and thanks for the Poor Boy's reference, I will look into their product.

Remember I am not a "pro" caliber detailer, but I care about my customers and I want to do a satisfactory job. So it looks like until my homebrew stuff works, I will use real products. i may never actually end up using my homebrew stuff :)

LOL.... This thread has the making's an April Fool's CLASSIC! :har:

Just forget it man! Wait until it rains and get some soap and charge people for water. You had better stay in school. Get you High School Diploma!

You say you care about your customers but yet everything your going to be doing will be scratching and marring their cars. Do it right or don't do it at all.

Yeah but...you only use say 0.5-1.5 oz of ONR per wash. I have washed cars with half a gallon of QEW, if it was really dirty you might need 1.5 gal (use the dirty stuff that's left for the wheels). So in reality you can carry a small bottle of ONR, and a 1 gallon bucket, and you ask to put the water in it from the customer's sink. No big hoses or jugs of auto wash. You do need a bunch of towels for drying (with either the "waterless" or "rinseless").

A car can be washed very well with waterless products without scratching or marring. I have been doing it for years, and many others as well. Yes ONR is one way, and there are some very good waterless washes out there. Many companies will provide you with sample sizes, find one that you like and go for it. As for cost with the proper application methods it's well under a $1.

Hey, HydroMan, maybe you haven't read the ONR technique...a lot of people do a pre-spray to loosen the dirt, if you go to that link I posted at Excel Detail they even have packages of ONR with a pesticide sprayer for that purpose. So you could still do your "spray" wash. You'd just follow up with a wet sponge from your *cringe* bucket, then wipe dry with your towel.

Ok, but how am I going to be able to tell my customers that I have a "waterless" wash? I just spent two weeks marketing my new waterless wash and I have appointments next week.

I don't want to show up with a bucket of water. And yes, waterless car sprays work, its just that I wanted to make my own formula, but to be on the safe side, I am going to buy Freedom Waterless and see how that works out. I am trying to obtain a free sample beforehand though.

Today I tried the mixture of QD, Auto Soap, and Water and sprayed it. It worked pretty well. The surface was smooth but not completely, but a clay bar took care of that :) I'm really happy. I'll use my home method to fall back on in case etc.

Switch your marketing campain to rinsless. Tell them you have found a far better technique through your research

In short... you screwed up. You pushed the "waterless" technique before you figured it out. There are waterless products like Wet Paint but you don't have the $$ to buy them. As mentioned Poorboy's Spray & Wipe is a superb product but it is intended for light/moderate cleaning and will need to be purchased in large sizes & shipped.

Listen to the folks here before you cause some real damage to a car and the nice church folk sue your arse off. Read up on ONR, Wet Paint, Poorboy's Spray & Wipe, and others mentioned. On top of all this if you aren't using quality microfiber towels you will be doing more harm to the paint than the cleaning is worth.

What will you do when a hunter brings his mud covered truck in to see this miracle waterless wash?

You had best step back and rethink this whole thing.
