Making silver wet

Hi,

I have been using the full Zaino system on my Silver M3, and I have been a little disappointed. After claying, ZPC, Z5 and then lots of coats of Z2, It did make it very very shiny and reflective, but it did not have that liquid wetness which makes silver look great.

Some pics here

As I have ran out of Z2, but still have heaps of Z5 left…. Could I use the Z5 to give a polished base, and then cover it with something to give it that real wet look…..or get a new base product as well….any other suggestions on how to make a silver M3 get the real liquid look, instead of the Zaino reflective look would be great?

I myself will have an opportunity to test out Zaino this winter and from what i was told it is best used as a stand alone product. will you be topping your Zaino or completely removing it from your paint.

If you do start over Liquid Souveran or another wax high in carnaubas may be more what you need or are looking for. I have seen some nice pics here with silver paint so im sure someone will advise you on a product. Good Luck

Silver is naturally a hard color to make look wet. Some shades of silver are able to look moderately deep and wet, while other shades just will look shiny and clean, at best. It will never have the same liquid look as a black car, so maybe you have your hopes set a bit too high. I have done BMW silver before, and was able to get moderate depth and wetness out of it before using very good prep and Collinite 845. On my silver GMC Envoy on the other hand, I can make it look *really* wet and glowing, without crazy prep. IMO it really depends on the shade of silver. I have seen many pics of Jeff's Werkstatt on silver, and from what I see in the pics, the paint looks pretty wet with a "wet glass" look that compliments the color nicely. Or you could go the carnauba route, maybe Natty's Blue or something along those lines.

Thanks for the reply guys .... I will be stripping and starting again.... but I think the Z5 would prolly make a good base for something else instead of putting the Z2 on as the final shine.

I feel you on the silver. I would like to know how your new product trial goes. I have yet to try the AIO/KSG and paste souveran I bought on my truck. So far, the Adams line is all I have used, and frankly, on that particular vehicle, it left me wanting a lot more.

I am suprised the Zaino dissapointed you some. Most people, especially with multiple multiple layers produce brilliant gloss results with the Zaino system.

Good luck . . . .

IMO, liquid look for a silver car begins with either Four Star UPP or Pinnacle Paste Glaz. My buddy went through so many products on his silver Prelude but in the end, UPP and/or PG was it.

I guess I should clarify on the Zaino .... It was very good... it just seemed to be a bit sterile, even after 5-6 coats of Z2... it just didn't give it that wow factor that I am after

First you have to polish it to a mirror and get as many defects out. While it is tough to see defects in silver, which is great, if they are there they will detract from the overall appearance be it shine or depth/wetness. I have a BMW Titalnium Silver and it is tough to make wet. But I just re-did everything stripping off Zaino and polishing with Blackfire SRC Finishing Polish, then I put on RMG Glaze and topped it with Souveran Paste. The paint looks like butter. It is a great look. I miss the shine of the Zaino, and I may strip the wax this weekend and go back, just to see what I like better, then do one permanently after that. And, I just like putting stuff on my car on regular basis. :)

Also, if you did not get the Z8 with your Zaino system, then you missed out on a product that puts it over the top.

Are you using the new Pro versions of Zaino or the old versions?

I had the Z2-PRO... but the normal Z5.

My Wifes car is silver as well, so I may put some coats of Z5 on it this weekend, and maybee try some OTC liquid wax like meguires or mothers or something, and just see how that looks........

Is this wet enough?

I used Optimum Compound and an Orange pad, Optimum Polish and a white pad, Natty's Blue by hand... Klasse AIO was used before Natty's on the hood, but I didn't get pictures.

I love a good Carnauba!

You might really like the Werkstatt system, one of the Prime's as your base and either Acrylic Jett or the spray version, Acrylic Jett Trigger. To me, it gives the deepest and wettest look I've been able to attain with a sealant. Durability is on par with Zaino and Klasse.

I did a mates car yesterday, in subaru's crystal grey. Alot of people call it silver, but its a bit darker. I had hit it with the klasse twins months ago, and just washed/clayed/waxed it with OCW. Now the colour comes out true! The SG made the flake pop and brought the depth of the paint, the OCW makes the clear absolutely drip! Highly recommended. Cant wait to hit it with my new menzerna's!

I have a billit silver Ridgeline. It is basically a primer color and all I can hope for is shine and reflection. I use AIO and SGx3. I find I get my best results when I top every now and then after a wash with Menzerna HGAS.

I had the same problem as you except it was on a silver blue (real light blue) car with no metallic. I also tried Zanio and it was really shiny but lacks the depth and wetness and looks kind of sterile also. I tried my favorite PS and it also didn’t do much better since it lost the Zaino shine but didn’t gain that much in depth and wetness like on a black car. I have recently switched to Poor Boys EX and seem to be a bridge between the two. Not quite the shine of Zanio but looses that sterile look and adds some depth and wetness – kind of the best both worlds. What nice is I still get the durability of a sealant of 4 to 6 months with I don’t get for PS on my other cars.

You may want to try Liquid Glass. I use it on my Titansilber M3 and it leaves the best finish I have found and still remains durable. Mothers reflections might give you the look but the durability, for me, was very disappointing.

Having said that, I just picked up Zaino to try out. I figured for the BMW I would use Z7,Z8 and Z6 to support my Liquid Glass shine between coats and try the full version out on my other vehicles.

Hey Steve here are some combos that worked for me.....

On the Silver Mazda-3 I used:

Meg's #80

CG Extreme Sealant 3X

CG 5050 Paste

P6160800.jpg

On this silver Corolla I used

1Z Paint Polish

Topped with 2 coats of Menzerna FMJ

Lastly.... on this second Mazda 3 I used Tropi-Care paint polish/sealant alone.

Hopefully some of this info is helpful to you.
