Make It Shine: 2004 Odyssey Interior Makeover (lots of pics)

I have a detail option for those clients. For $10 I can apply a generous amount of gasoline and finish it off with a match!

VERY nice job on a very trashed interior. Like others have already said, interiors are my least favorite part of the profession but results like that are rewarding yet many times not appreciated. Great work!!!

WOW - great work. I personally hate interiors, but it seems like the last half dozen or so cars I have done have had nasty interiors.

One thing I do on the plastic panels is to spray a mixture of 3 parts water to 1 part APC, with a teaspoon or so of Woolite mixed in for lubricity, spray the plastic panels, and wipe them with a damp Magic Eraser to clean them. The Magic Eraser does a good job on textured plastics. I then respray the plastic panels with straight water, and wipe with a microfiber to remove any soap residue, or residue from the Magic Eraser.

However, I have run into a lot of plastic pieces where they are just stained, and I can't get them clean.

Thanks for that tip! I'll have to try out the Magic Eraser when I do the client's Grand Am.

Excellent improvement! :)

Not only was it filthy inside but I bet it smelled too. Cleaning it as thoroughly as you did probably cut down the smell significantly.

Thanks Scott! The smell was gone by the time I was finished. I think the carpets were just so saturated with dirt and it just really needed a good cleaning.

GREAT improvement! The owner should be ashamed! What is all that white junk, maggots??

Thanks! The white 'junk' I believe you are referring to is a particular type of snack. Not sure what it is called though.

Nice work Kaval. That thing was trashed, yuck. This person doesn't live near yonge & eglington, do they?

Thanks Kevin. I believe this client does live around that area, but I'll have to check to confirm. The Grand Am is silver too.

It always amazes me how some people can get in and drive around in filth like that. Not so practical with the front mat in one piece, harder to clean, since the drivers side is always dirtier. But I guess that was not a concern in this case, it has probably never been taken out before you did it.

Amazing job anyway :)

I always wonder the same thing. Granted the car I drive in usually has a dirty interior (detailers don't always have time for their own cars) but I never let it get even close to that point. It's just plain unhealthy.

Nice turn around!

Wow, incredible turn-around! Interiors are definitely not my favorite part of the job, especially the rare ones like that. Great work!

Thanks! Interiors are not my favourite part of the job either, but you have to take the bad with the good, so to speak. I look at everything as an opportunity to sell what you really like to do. For me, that's paint correction.

thats crazy. interiors can be rewarding in their turn-around, but it seems owners of bad interiors don't full realize/appreciate the turn around and how bad things really were vs how clean they became

awesome job

Thanks! I agree with you. Perfect example is the fact that the Grand Am I'm doing next was done last year, and it's already back to similar condition as the Odyssey.

Great result, Kaval. No need to label before & after pictures. :D

Haha. Gotta be thorough! lol!

Thanks Tyler!

excellent work I think people who drive and let their cars get like this should be put in an asylum or at least made to watch American Idol(not to take away work from us the detailers but come on try putting trash in a trash can and not under the seat. Excellent work again.

LOL @ American Idol, haha!!! Thanks for the comments!

that is real detailing for you right there!

i did an '05 Odessey (the next model out from that one) with beige carpet and beige leather seats in very, very similar condition only last week..

i know how much effort goes in to it all..

brilliant turnaround!!

Thank you! Yes, vans can be tough, but I like the fact that the rear carpets can be done all in one shot. I've actually found that it's faster than doing a car in some cases because you don't keep having to move around and adjusting yourself to the tight space of a car.

I am a newb and have a newb question. Why is the carpet striped?

I stripe the carpet b/c clients look at it and say "wow, that looks clean!" I vacuum all the junk out, then brush it lightly with a carpet brush.

I laughed really hard at your joke about the gasoline. "Here, I can take away all your problems, just give me some gasoline and a match :P"

Thank you for the comments!

Very nice work on that trashed interior. I have not taken a good beating from an interior like that in a while. (careful what I wish for.)
