M80 vs. M01 + M09

I already have a bottle of M01 (Fine Cut Cleaner) and M09 (Swirl Remover 2.0). Would I still need a bottle of M80 and why? Planned use is with PC and hopefully later with rotary.

Thank you in advance!

M01 is their Medium Cut Cleaner, and it's rotary only. You might need something stronger than #9 after that stuff even by rotary.

If you really *do* have M02 Fine Cut Cleaner then the #9 may very well be an OK follow up to remove any micromarring (or not-so-micro marring as the case may be ;) ).

[NOTE DISCLAIMER: Accumulator has not used #2 since it was recently reformulated to work by hand/PC as well as by rotary. The following is based on use of the *old* version and what reputable people have posted.]

#2 has a good bit more cut than #80, but #80 finishes out better. If you can get by with #80 just use that. If you can't, step up to the #2. But there's no need to use a more aggressive product than you need.

:lol @ "not-so-micro"

You have sharp eye and quick mind, you caught that one without even missing a beat, I do have Fine Cut Cleaner, I typed in M01 thinking M02. :o

When it comes to M01 I was under impression their 2006 Professional Catalog says it's for DA too. I will have to double-check as I have M01 too.

That's what I should have kept in my mind and in a way I did by trying to guide myself based on people's decsriptions of their aggresivness levels in relation to each other. But I forgot that can be influences by more than one factor. I need to answer my own question by getting #80 and seeing for myself where it stacks up and is it needed on a case by case basis.

Thank you again! :2thumbs:

M01 was reformulated for the PC and as well as a rotary for 2006.

Man that's some strong stuff. I've got great results with #80 with just a PC. I can't imagine it with a rotary! mmmmmmmmmm!

I got M01 to have it handy just in case. I don't believe that any of my cars will need it.

I'd get #80. #9 is quite oily and doesn't have much cut. #9 is nice for under a carnauba tho.

#9 will work in the sun too. Very little dusting compared to 80. 80 is just a tried and true staple. It works and finishes off well. To me, it's pad dependant. Meaning you can it to cut with a cutting pad and just polish with a polishing pad.

I am afraid that is not correct. Meguiar's M-01 Medium Cut Cleaner is for rotary use only. That was a misprint in the 2006 Professional Catalog.

Tim

Well man. It's on the label too right?

Would be nice to know what is right.

2hotford is, IMO, a sufficiently knowledgeable detailer, *ESPECIALLY* with regard to Meguiar's products, that I'd take his word over even their brochures any day. Unless somebody like one of the Mike P.s at Meguiars posts a correction, it sounds like #1 is still rotary only. And given the general nature of Meguiar's abrasive products, that seems mighty likely to me anyhow.

ZoranC- Yeah, #80 is a great product to have around, it's (IMO) a good medium-level polish. FWIW, it's about the only Meguiar's product of this type that I use on a regular basis. It doesn't work that well for me via rotary (quite possibly a matter of user-error) as it can gum up a bit, and it's not aggressive enough to do the correction I'm after on the Audis (does enough correction + concealing to be OK for some people though), but it's still good stuff and the first Meg's (abrasive) product I'd reach for on most any paint.

justin30513- Yeah, the old version of #2 was plenty aggressive by rotary, I never even tried #1.

I have just checked label of brand new M01 purchased few weeks ago straight from Meguiar's. It says for "rotary use only". That makes catalog's description definitely a typo.

In that case what would be most abrasive Meguiar's cleaner that I could use with PC (I don't want to go to rotary this early) when Fine Cut will not "cut" it (pun intended)? M83?

Or some other product line would have something even better than M83 for PC?

Either the new version of #2 or #83. I'd sorta expect the #2 to be more aggressive than the #83 but I dunno for sure.

I'd rather use stuff from Hi-Temp or Menzerna or Optimum myself. Or even 1Z if you don't mind it leaving wax/fillers. FWIW Hi-Temp's Extereme Cut Leveler mixed with a little 1z Ultra is about as aggressive as I think you can go by PC, certainly the most aggressive stuff *I* have ever tried that way.

Hey Justin,

I agree with you. But it was a typo and again, it is definitely a rotary only product. :) There was some advantages being the Meguiar's Online Super Moderator for all those years. I again went to the head guy of technical training (Mike Pennington) at Meg's to verify and it is a typo.

... and label on actual product too says it's "rotary only".
