Which version of M105 Compound do you like the best? Myself I have only had use the first version and really like the fast cut it has. Will have to try the new version soon. BTW the Qt size of the older version is gone, but we got some of the older version gallons in, so stock up folks.
 
If I am using the surbuf pads via KBM then the OG M105.

If using orange pads via KBM, I like the DA approved as it wipe away easier.

Yes the old OG does have more cut.

Today while using my new favorite orange pad for KBM, the classic CMA, I actually mixed on the pad some OG and new M105. :out::scared::D

This worked very well on the Basalt Black Metallic Porsche turbo I am work on. It seemed to wipe away even easier then just the new M105.

I'll be sure to try it out on the next few cars I polish.
 
I'm a fan of the old M105.

With the Surbuf pads, there is no question that the old M105 is the better product. If you are using a wool pad, then the old M105 will cut faster.

If M105 is acting up, then I'll switch to M86.
 
Hmmm.. I seem to recall old M105 making a huge dust mess but being easier to wipe off. The new M105 we used the other day did not seem to dust as much but wiping off the residue was a nightmare.

I need to try the old/new combo Bryan is talking about to see if that solves all the problems. Still, its an excellent polish when getting your KBM on.
 
I honestly don't know whether I have the "new" or "old" version of M105. But I have experienced excellent cut with PC and LC orange pad and almost no dust or residue!

How can I determine which version of 105 I have?

If its the new version, It should say on the back of the bottle that it can be used by hand, D.A, and rotary.

The old version was for rotary and hand only.

Ok... I just checked the packaging. I have the new version. I haven't compared it to the old, but I like it very much!
 
I will use the old version on the rotary and the new version on my DA. It could just be the paint I was working on but the newer version didn't work as well as the older version with the rotary.
 
I haven't tried 105 yet, old or new, so I don't have an opinion yet. However, with the help of Angelo, I ordered some yesterday along with a Flex!! Christmas came early this year for me. Thanks Angelo for all of your help. I can't wait to try out the 105!!
 
Here is my generic compare and contrast.

I feel the old M105 offers more potential IF you are willing to learn how to use it to it's standards. I have had many in depth discussions with Kevin Brown (heck I named the Kevin Brown Method) on how to extract every ounce of performance from this product and was blown away by the possible results. However it has a very unique and specific learning curve to get the most from it.

The new M105 doesn't quite have the same cut and maximum potential, but it is much easier for people to achieve the new M105's maximum potential.

So the old stuff is awesome, but only for those who have luxury and understanding to make it awesome. The new stuff is really good for everybody who has some experience polishing. It will be a matter of preference.

However GMBlack3a has a lot of experience with the old stuff and still prefers the new stuff...

Great thread Angelo, I would be interested in hearing other people's thoughts on this as well...
 
Just my opinion, but I think it has a lot to do with the climate you are in.

My original experience with this product was in California. I was using the original formula, and it worked absolutely fantastic! I had absolutely no complaints what so ever. Brought some home to Texas, and I couldn't get it to work for nothing! Gummed up, and totally useless. It didn't matter what pad or speed I used, nothing worked. Many talks with Kevin and Jason, and I'm still not sure if we really ever nailed down what happened, but IMO it was the different climates.

The new M105 is an excellent product for me here in Texas. Usually I can get some pretty flawless results with it. I still have a quart of the old formula, and brought it out the other day, just to see if anything changed. Gummed up almost immediately, and was a bear to use.

I sold 2.5 gallons a few moths ago, Chris actually bought it all :D

Interesting. I'm in Florida and absolutely LOVE the original version. It hasn't given me any problems at any time of year.

Yeah, it does seem like it is more of a climate thing. Up here in the high humidity, the old M105 is perfect. If it does start to act up, then I switch to the bulletproof M86.

I haven't used the new M105 that much, but I'm glad I bought those gallons, Nick! :D:D:D

The cut of the new M105 is lower than the original and it seems to dust more. I'll continue to test the new M105, but the old M105 and M86 will always be in my arsenal.

You and Angelo(Floridians) both use the old formula, and love it. Like I said, I think climate plays a huge role in how this product works. New formula seems to work everywhere though.
 
If you have both versions, try priming your pad with 75% new and 25% old. Just apply the amount of each right to the pad and prime. Then I use a few large pea sized dots of the old.

After your first section, clean the pad with a brush or wipe it against a MF, then blow it out with compressed air.

Apply more dots of the old M105 and continue.

Keeping the pad well primed will keep the dust down.

Also when cleaning your pads, make sure you get them really clean. Any leftover M105 that dries in the pad will let out a cloud of dust on your first use the next time.

Question.....

Since the product is doing the most work with M105, how much difference is there in using a white pad vs. an orange pad via a PC in your opinion.......?

I saw in anther thread that you like black LC pads with M205 and thought I might take that logic up a notch into using a white pad and M105.......

Dave, Bret and I did a Mitsu EVO last week that has a very soft clear. We did try a white LC pad instead of the orange, but it just would not cut enough. So we just backed off on the pressure w/ the orange and everything was fine.
