Love Bugs

I am currently washing every 2 weeks and reapplying P21S after each wash. I drive to/from Gainesville a few times a week usually, and you can imagine how bad they cake up.... however with fresh P21S they have literally been coming right off with soap and water... it is a miracle! Our other cars though... it's a disaster.

Are there any products on the market that are enzyme based or something that break these little guys down?

P21S is such a great wax.

Do you need to treat a clear bra differently before a love bug encounter? For instance, wax over it?

Nah.. Just use a wax or sealant. The finish of the clear bra can be as slick as the paint.

I can add a bit here as I just added Meguiar's Ultimate QD to my arsenal. This is some of the most slippery QD I've seen and definitely makes love bugs easier to remove. In my case I had both love bugs and June bugs on my car and they all rinsed off with just a jet stream of water from the hose.

This is quickly becoming my favorite Meg's product.

Oh yeah!, these love bugs are stupid!. I'm in southwest Florida and it's a nightmare but I have to honestly say, I don't get as many as most people around here cause for 1, I don't drive around much, just to work and back. 2, I don't drive very fast- I usually keep it at 47 to 50 and NEVER take the interstate!. When I do get them on my car I usually wash it every 2 weeks or so. Depends on how bad it is.

So are these love bugs really auto paint destroyers?. Cause when I wash my car off and take them off, I don't really see my paint getting ruined. But nevertheless!, DAMN LOVE BUGS!:bat

I was under the impression that they are gone in the next week or so for the most part.

Their pretty much gone down here. They really stick out on white cars. :grrr :bat

Now there's tons of tiny frogs hopping around in the morning and end up dying as soon as the sun comes out baking them to the ground! :sadwavey:

Same here in Jville. Pretty much gone, but they will be back twice as bad in August. Now I have to worry about moths!

I wish every insect had wings like dragon flies so they can avoid hitting you! LOL!

My car is black so you can't really see them much on it. But like I said before, I don't drive fast cause thats what MAINLY smashes them onto your car. Ofcourse SOME of them will smash and stick to your car but for the most part, if you're not going very fast, you won't get many on your car. The ONLY thing I hate the most of these love bugs are when they hit my radiator. THAT, is annoying as all hell!. I hope they won't ruin it, although there aren't many stuck in the radiator-I still hate it.

Just keep switching lanes on the streets when driving to try your hardest to keep yourself in a lane thats not fast moving or crowded that way people don't get antsy that you're going WAY slow!. Here in Florida, the driving speed seems like "nothing below 80mph" LOL.--(on ALL streets!!!)

I get all sorts of people staring at me cause of how slow i'm driving and how they must be confused cause i'm driving a 2007 Honda Civic Si. Everybody thinks that people with those cars should be driving FAST all the time LOL!. If I had a Lambo, i'd STILL drive that slow!. Infact, I most likely wouldn't even be driving a Lambo with these love bugs around anyways!

Florida is coolness all year round untill this *%!@ happens!.

Driving slow where I am in Tampa, does not prevent it at all. I believe they leave the south part of the state first.

Funny you guys mentioned this. I was looking to pick up some Poorboys Bug Squash from AG and they were all out in their 16oz size. You guys must have cleaned them out! :)

But looks like Danase still has some, so I'll probably buy it from there. AG did still have the 32 oz refill size for not a whole lot more.

Just make sure you freshen up your LSP with something every week... or at least, I've found that to help. Not even the whole car (if you don't want to)... just the areas that are the warzone.

Even just a quick booster like Aquawax on the hood, front end, and front of the mirrors can help tremendously when its time to wash them off. They wash off with nearly no trouble at all... if you wash them off within probably a few days (assuming you don't park in the sun), you might even be able to not even have to use clay!

But I haven't been able to clean my car in a while... looks like I'll be pulling out the clay today :(

Oh yea, but it seems I can't get around claying the windshield every week (well, everytime I wash the car). Washing doesn't get rid of the residue completely. stupid lovebugs!

Well this might make an interesting Saturday for me then. My aunt that lives in Jacksonville is coming up and wants me to detail her car when she gets here. She will travel alot on I-10 so I imagine I will have my work cut out for me when she gets here. I just hope they aren't too bad on the way up or back. I would hate for her to have them all over the car when she gets back home.

damn, and i thought regualr bugs were bad up here in PA.

i dont know what I would do during those months. get a beater i guess.

i suppose that is the price yo pay to have 12 months of warm weather.

PAhas less bugs, but we have SNOW and road salt. lovely combinations for your paint

Up North we have our snow/road salt, generally bad winter weather.

And now you guys are getting your version of our suffering. You can't always get what you want.

Yeah they still get smashed but my car never looks as bad as most of these other cars I see. I just hate when I see them stuck in my radiator when I look at it from the front of my car.

I'm not worried about the paint all that much. Don't get me wrong!, I AM a detailing freak! or....."AUTOPIAN".

Nothing a good 1.5 or 2 hour wash at the car wash can't do. Some good Meguiars NXT soap with a nice clean wash mit and a bucket of NXT water will bring her out like new again. It DOES suck that I buy a new 07 car 2.5 months ago and THIS happens.:sosad

Fellas I work @ Auto Zone in venice, I am Having the boss order a surplus of bug remover , one by a company called lifter 1, and another by Rain-x the pre wash gel, got a lot of requests for those this year, and I will be stocked up on bug wash from prestone and Rain -x, be ready they are sayin this half of the season is a real pain in the a$$ !!!
