looking for information on best garage keepers insurance and tools to start with.

I recently posted a thread titled starting out shoe string budget, it fraid some nerves. I would like to know the best insurance to have for a mobile operation-"descent price if possible".

What other tools to get, polishes, pads to have? I'm looking at getting out there in spring 2012. Taking business courses, obtaining training from Barry Theal till then. I have detailed many

vehicles, but not at the level I would like. I wish some people would understand I'm not some young punk who's looking to undercut them. The reason i'm in here is to learn from industry

insiders. This site enabled me to get in touch with barry and others who can teach me. I have worked numerous dealerships and enjoy this type of work, ecspecially polishing out black hoods.

what works for me , may not work for you so... get as much reading from this and other forums detail related.
 
If you are mobile you don't need garage keepers insurance. You can get insurance for about half that. It usually will cover damage done due to just the detailing and moving the vehicle while at the owners location. It is about half the price since any fire, building failure, flood, storm, vandalism would be the responsibility of the owner and not you.
 
Don't be put off, contrary to what some would have you believe many of us started off with very little capital, using detailing to make money to fund a 'real' business or for whatever reason (chicken and egg situation).



Obtain business liability coverage; specifically Garage Keeper's Insurance (fixed location) or a Commercial General Liability policy (Mobile detailer’s).

Don't mind Bud or pay him any attention. We're pretty much all fed up with him at this point. Yappy little dogs will yap, right?

You're doing it right, Nick, and that is a very smart thing. Having the foresight to recognize and know your own limitations and seek out ways to overcome them says that you're going to go far, though it's going to take time to get yourself there. The best thing you can do at this point is just sit down and read as much of the existing information on the forums as possible. Once you've done that if you still have questions, that would be the point to start asking them.
 
Garage keepers insurance has specific modifiable parts with some provides that simply covers the vehicle in your care be it at a shop, your home shop, in a parking lot etc.. its not specific to your or a garage.
