Looking for fairly cheap, good QD...Read within

I have used so many QDs in my detailing career...lol I really like Meg's Final Inspection, but am always looking for something different. I have also used Mother's Showtime, and like that too. However, I have heard of Final Detail. What is the different between FI and FD? Also, any other decent QDs that are relatively cheap? I know my questions have no end, but I am looking for a new detailing process....

Final Detail???? Do you mean Meguiar's Quik Detailer in the maroon bottle? If not post a link to the product so we can see it.



If it is Quik Detailer you are referring to, its basically the same as FI but with a little silicone in it for slickness and a different fragrance. You cannot get QD in larger quantities like you can FI.

Final Detail is by far the best QD I've ever used! Heres why.



It provides the slickest surface of any QD out there, including Quick Detail, Final Inspection, Eagle One, Mothers and Speed Shine. (Haven't tried the Crystal Mist Yet). A few of my friends would ask the difference and their questions were answered when we did a side by side comparison, super slick! It makes bugs, bird droppings dirt wipe off easier. I remember drying to apply masking tape to the paint and it wouldn't stick!:bow



It also provides a very reflective hard shine. It's hard to explain but you will understand when you try it.



It doesn't seem to give you that "Dry" feel that you get with some QD's such as Mothers.



Best part is it's cheap, at $15.00/Gallon I use it on the paint, part of the wheel wells, door jambs, engine bay and wheels.:xyxthumbs

Don't have a link, but Meguiar's #51 Final Detail, is in Meg's Professional Detailer line. It is available in 1 gallon and 5 gallon sizes. It is not considered "body shop safe", so it probably has some silicone in it.

Someone on the site uses it in preference to #34 Final Inspection. I think it is a few bucks cheaper, too.

Based on the post above I'd say it has a ton of silicone in it. But it sounds like a good product for a detailer who wants to deliver a car that feels super slick.



I'll try to find a MSDS to see what's in it.

Hmmm, you might be right about that comment. I've searched for it's contents before and had trouble finding it. Let me know if you have any luck finding MSDS.



Any concerns with using a high silicone content on various surfaces such as plastics, paint, rubber? :confused:



I know there are two types of silicone and I am confident this is not the oil based silicone, no greasy feel at all and dusting is not an issue. I'm more worried about long term effects on the materials, would hate to stop using this product but in the best interest of preserving the car I certainly would.
 
Final Detail is really great. Much better than FI in my opinion as far as gloss and slickness. There is nothing wrong with silicone in a QD, unless you are in a paint environment. I would bet most QD's are not body-shop safe. If you are interested in FD, give it a try.
 
i dont see any difference between #34 & Final Detail except that #34 says it is paint safe. I have their pro catalog in front of me. Both are available in 1 gallon jugs as well. i bought a gallon of #34 and it looks good to me...and it seems a bit slicker/heavier than QD.:nixweiss...i have not tried the Final Detail....yet......

I think you meant #34 and Final Detail. But anyway, have you used them both? I have the catalog too, but more importantly I have a bottle of #34 and a bottle of FD... They are pretty different. I didn't find #34 that much better than Quik Detail (not as much as I expected to) except it felt a bit more substantial for wiping crud off and it smelled nicer. FD is quite a bit slicker and glossier than them. Just because they are both available by the gallon doesn't mean they are the same... The fact that one is paint-shop safe and one is not should be a pretty clear sign that they are different. A gallon of Final Detail should also be a bit cheaper than #34. :dance

Well, it does say right on the bottle "Safe for paint, plastic, chrome, vinyl, wood veneer". Only the wrong kinds of silicone would be harmful. The good ones would probably offer some short-term protection. I have pretty strong confidence in Meg's to make safe stuff. While sometimes there are better products out there (especially when talking about waxes and sealants) I have never found Meg's stuff to be harmful or bad. But that is obviously totally opinion...
 
edited my post, thanks! so what is really different about it, since you have had the chance to use all 3? just the slickness? if so, was the same wax applied at the time? this the thing i dont like about meg's, they have many products that are really similar. Thought i suppose more is better in the long run!
 
So, is the concenus that FD is better? Also, where can I find it? I have looked all over, but if someone could provide me with a website, I would appreciate it!

Haven't used FD, but you have the recommendation of at least a couple of people. By the gallon, I think I paid around $23 for FI and MBZ 500E paid $15 for FD.

Try a body shop supply store for FD. They may have to order it for you.

Charles is right, you will have to order it through a paint and body store. Check www.meguiars.com for local distributors. It is listed in the Meguiars Professional Surface Care Product Guide towards the back of the catalog.



I've used all three Meguiars QD's and this is by far the best. I've also noticed that it leaves a beautiful low gloss almost satin finish on plastics and rubber. If used excessively it can leave a slight haze on chrome and glass but can be buffed out.
 
well after i use up my gallon of #34 i shall try this as well! grat to hear input etc. i ordered my stuff thru the local NAPA store....might check out yours as well:D
 
Have you guys tried # 16 Quick wax. It states it is a good partner to quick detailer. If you find quick detailer hard to wipe off, it may mean your wax layer is diminishing. Just squirt on QUICK WAX and wipe off for deeper, richer color, as well as increase shine and protection.

Is this a new liquid wax from Meguiar's in a quick detail format?
 
I'm not sure if this is what some people have asked, but just to clarify, Final Detail does not contain wax. But I'm sure silicones provide some extra, though short-lived, protection (as pretty much any QD would). I've used FD on top of my Souveran, on top of #26, and on top of Blackfire. It works fine on all of them. I don't know what the differences are, but they are all different. I find Quik Detailer is ok, especially for the cost, and has a great sprayer. Final Detail feels a bit more substantial than Quik D, but has a pretty poor sprayer. The gloss and slickness don't really seem any different to me, though. But it does feel like a better product. Final Detail feels as substantial as Final Inspection (in fact a bit more so), but leaves a much better gloss and a lot more slickness. I even find it slicker and glossier than Crystal Mist, though CM actually adds a bit of extra protection. It also smells pretty nice.



By "substantial", I mean it feels like it is more lubricating, or could safely handle more crud. It is a pretty subjective "feel" type of thing... If you do buy Final Detail, I recommend the spray bottle and sprayer too. They will cost as much, but probably less, than any Home Depot/Lowe's sprayer, they have the product info marked right on them, and the regular spray head (Meg's has several to include a chem. resistant; high volume; and foaming) does a much better job of spraying than any other one I've used (except for the Quik Detail bottle). It is a good buy. I also suggest calling some local detail/body shop supply places to find it. The Meg's listing is pretty poor. They didn't list anyone near me. You can order right from Meg's, but I think you have to buy at least 4 1-gallon bottles to do that... Finding a dist. is best. I paid $17.50 or something for FD, but I think my dist. charges a lot (they sell FI for like $23?)... :(

The $23 seems to be a fairly common price for Final Inspection. I have paid that at two different Meguiar's distributors in my area. When I am in one again, I will check the price of the Final Detail.
