Looking for a good tire gel

Lee,

I quickly scanned the instructions for Z-16 on Zaino's website and saw no mention of wiping the tires down to remove excess product. It is just an "apply and dry" product?

I'd like a sample if you wouldn't mind as I really want to find a tire dressing that I can stick with. I'll PM you my address later. Of course I will offer a return sample but you may already have everything I have.

vdog,

I have Four Star's tire gel waiting to be used. Just what kind of time frame is "two washings"?

ok i will rephrase how long i feel it lasts. during the summer when i wash my car 4 to 5 times a week, i would say i would apply it 6 to 8 times a month. in the winter time, it doesn't last as long because my tires see much more mud and muck and water, etc. it also depends on how you like your tires. i like them to be not so "bling bling" so i am ok as long as the tires look black but not glossy. that could be another reason why i don't have to apply it very often.

When applied properly, with an air compressor and air gun, Optimum's new tire gel is fantastic:up

Not a deep wet look but still rather glossy and so far with me, great durability. Durability with me is second to an overall consistant, even look.

It should be ready for sale soon. I'll do a more thorough report on it soon.

I agree that Endurance is difficult to apply, though I haven't tried it with a tire swipe. Have you used the Eagle One tire swipe with Endurance? I suspect it would still be difficult because it is so thick...

Yes, I have a good supply of the EO tire sponges. What happens is it gets caught inside the letters of my white letter tires. I suppose I could use a q-tip and buff it out, but I wasn't that impressed with the finish and durability in the first place.

This is the finish I get with Armor All Original and it lasts a very long time with no sling whatsoever. No problems with it getting caught inside the white letters. It absorbs into the tires. I don't even have to buff it off, so it saves me time too.

I use Meguiars Hyper dressing, Blacks Tire gel, Pro Blue Ice all of these products DO NOT SLING the key is to have a good clean tire and a GOOD degreaser.

Meguiar's Endurance High Gloss is by far my favorite product to use on my Porsche's tires. It is extremely glossy and last for weeks, even through regular washings. Plus, it's pretty easy to find in stores. I put it on with Eagle One tire swipes and buff off the excess with an old towel and I've never had a problem with it slinging up on my car.

Latest one I've tried is PB B&B - best shot I can offer you is this (even though it only shows top edge of the tyre)

I use APC+ first and an old scrub brush and clean to the point where I can wipe tyre dry with a white terry towel and towel stays white if that makes sense, then apply dressing and leave to dry. Durability a secondary issue with this particular car as it's rarely used but I put it on my GF's daily driver and it held up for about 8-10 days in winter conditions

I wasn't impressed with Megs Endurance but that may have been poor application technique resulting in slinging.

Ive got a bottle of BNB in mind on my next online order. Ive heard great reviews from it.

Andy: how would you rate BNB's glossiness?

As you can see from my pic, it's got a gloss but that was 2 layers with about 15 minutes between the 2. I find that it retains that gloss but on my tyres (Pirelli P600) it seems just about right and far less artificial than Endurance (which IMO has a "car dealership" look to it which I don't like but that's purely a personal preference issue). Weird, as their Hot Shine spray seems less glossy - but again that could be application technique.

B&B's economical too - I'd reckon a 5 pence sized drop per tyre (not sure of a US equivalent - a dime maybe?)

Hope this helps.:)

Ye, that's a little too glossy for me, I have bitten the bullet and just purchased Z16 will probably get to try that on the weekend, weather permitting of course. Will post a pic or two and my opinion after that maybe.

Agree with GSR stilez. Wolfgang Black Diamond is killer. Two coats and one hour drying time is the norm for me.

Went to victoria & back - 1000 km round trip on dec 26.

Blasted the wheels and tires with the PW and then detailers pride gel cleaned the wheels. After drying the tires and wheels, I discovered tyres that were still black. They had lost some gloss but did not dry up.

I'm after opinions on Detailers Pride Emerald tire gel, Pinnacle Black Onyx and Four Star tire gel

What's the diff between them. Huge difference in price between them all with Pinnacle being the most expensive

Certainly do not want to pay almost twice as much for Pinnacle if it's about the same as WG

I bought a 64 oz (1.89 litre) container of WG.

Might as well, works out much cheaper for me.

Has anyone tried Meguiars Endurance Matte Finish? I am getting ready t purchase more stuff and this sounds interesting since I Use endurance high gloos and like the durability but prefer a more matte finish

If you like a matte finish, you should at least try Armor All Original. I've tried about 8-9 different products before I settled on AAO. Most of the products I tried had a matte finish which I prefer. I have a picture if you scroll back a bit in this thread.

Most products sling on my tires because the white letters have recesses in them that hold tire dressings and just wait for me to take a drive. I tried a little experiment today. I've never seen AAO sling the least little bit. I wanted to see if it was possible to get AAO to sling. After thoroughly scrubbing and rinsing my tires with EO A2Z, I put on some AAO on very heavily with an EO tire sponge. I did not buff any product off. I just kept working the product until it was as heavy as I could get it on without it starting to run down the tires. About 15 minutes later I went for a drive. When I got back there were only a few spots where a small amount of sling could be found and you had to be looking closely to find those. So it is possible to get AAO to sling, but you have to try very hard to get it to do it. I can tell you right now, there are very few products which are this easy to apply and produce the kind of look and durability you get with AAO. Even those which come close cost at least 4 times more.

I think a lot of people are afraid to try AAO because they don't believe a product this cheap can work as well as the more expensive ones, or because they've heard bad things about Armor All. Armor All used to be a horrible product, but they now use a completely different formulation which is not greasy or harmful. As the old saying goes, if you haven't tried AAO lately, you haven't tried AAO.

AA also makes two different products which have the exact same ingredients, but in different proportions to produce either more or less gloss than AAO, but all of them can be characterized as having a matte finish. Those two products are AA ultra shine and AA low shine.

I have and did not find it to be as durable as the High Gloss version. :nixweiss Nice look though.

Another vote for Wolfgang. Makes the tires very black and has a nice, classy look. One bottle lasts me a very long time, so the price isn't really an issue.
