hello fellow carnuts

i use the meguiars hi-tech yellow wax. apply it on with a 3000 rpm orbital buffer with a sponge, and take it off with a royal valvet 100% cotton towels 30 minutes latter.

my question is, why do i get LONG hair line scratches in the wax (NOT THE PAINT) every time.

i was very, very carful last time and still got them.

i do a "rough" wipe of a section, turn the towel over and do a final wipe, with very light pressure. i have a dark car so it really is an eyesore, (everybody tells me the paint is perfect, yet i'm not happy with thhhose lines).

i never tried dampening the towel, but if i dampened it with some meguiars QD, or just plain water (WHICH ONE), would that help.

i just put zaino on order should get it this week (ordered on 9/12/01). do people have this problem with zaino too?, or just carnuba.

thanks for reading this post, any reply is greatly appreciated.

It could be a problem with your towels. Many here cut the decorative boarders and edges off of their towels. The edges and boarders are not 100% cotton, and can scratch or in your case mar the wax.

Did you wash the towels are few times, with no fabric softner?

I use dreft to wash my cloths (seperately) and towels. I do a pre wash with Dawn to lossen the wax residue. I just wash the towels that touch the paint by machine, glass towels by hand, applicators by hand, and my wash mitts/pads.

I always do a final wipe with a Miracle Towel to blend everything in. But then again thats just me.

the towels have been washed 3 times since i got them, no softeners were added, they were washed with all my other car towels (nothing REALLY dirty).

thanks for all the replys so far.
