Hello all. I have been lurking for a week or so and have gotten a lot of good info here so decided to sign up.

Up until last week I was the person who paid a car wash to wash my car. Not the drive through type, I know better than that, but a place that worked in the parking structure at my work. I have learned that they may be better than drive through, they aren't going to treat my car like I would. Honestly I never knew what caused swirls. Never knew there was such a process to washing my car. I aways though I took care of her because I had it washed weekly and every so often did a clay and wax at home. Two buckets and a grit guard? Never heard of such a thing. That was until last week when I paid a detailer to detail my 2012 Evo X before a big car event.

The detailer went over how to make the detail last longer and I went home and did what I usually do when I want to learn something, went online and read everything I could on the subject.

For almost a week I have spent hours online reading about it and for the first time in my life I'm actually excited about washing my car this weekend.

I bought two buckets, grit guards, MTM foamer, Sun Joe 3000 pressure washer, all types of MF towels, different colors for different parts of the car as well as certain type for the windows, spray detailing, drying. Bought the little Air Force blaster (forgot the name) hand held air blower, and over 100$ in shampoo, detail spray, wheel cleaner etc from a detail shop. BTW it will be a long time before washing my own car saves me money. Lol but I'm not doing it to save money. When I saw how much better my car looked after the detail I couldn't believe it. I thought I was taking care of her. Always in the garage at night, very picky about where I park. Avoid trees and other cars in general.

I also decided for future buffing and paint correction I'm going to do it myself. Detailer recommended a Rupes 15 or 21 so once my car needs a good detail again I'm getting the Rupes 21 package along with the Rupes 75E.

I'm going to study up on this, read all I can and do some work on test panels so when the time comes, I will be ready.

I'm going to end this book of an intro with the fact that I have a new appreciation for detailers. (Good detailers, ones that do the job right) I always thought detailers were just glorified car washers but now I understand there is an art to it. And I'm very interested to learn as much as I can to keep my pride and joy in perfect condition along with helping a few friends and family with theirs.

Thanks for providing a great site.

Welcome to Autopia! Thanks for joining up. There is a ton of info at your finger tips. The Rupes is an excellent choice and very user friendly. One of our sponsors Kevin Brown aka BuffDaddy.com  is the premier place for Rupes. Make sure you check him out.

What detail shop did you buy from? Im just starting out and bought most products online but would prefer to get local. Im in N. OC.

I bought from detailing.com. They are located in Irvine off Bake and Rockfield. I also bought some products from Chemical Guys in Santa Ana off Harbor Blvd.

My biased suggestion:

<span>3D of Santa Ana

I'll take a look. Funny my friend works valet at the Irvine Spectrum and just yesterday asked the carwash place that works in the structure what products they use. They said 3D. I said that name hasn't come up in all my researching detailing so maybe it's more commercial less quality products. But guess I'm wrong.

Thanks, I'll try them.

We cater to both. Our products are designed for detailers, yet priced well enough in bulk (55 gal drums/ 250 gal totes) to sell to car washes.
