Little known Waxes

I suspect that one (perhaps unspoken) reason whe we like these products is the nostalgia factor. Same reason many of us like certain older cars that don't really offer any (functional) advantages over today's offerings.

As always, Accumulator makes a good point! I guess that's why I prefer paste wax, and that's why (for example) I'd rather own an ancient E-Type than a new XKR.

Hey, Jon! I was interested in your metion of "SurLuster". It's actually a big thing here in Japan; all the major chain stores (at least in the greater Tokyo area) carry it. It's really popular with young car enthusiasts, and the "top-grade" products cost big bucks. The most expensive version is called "Manhattan Gold", and it costs about $40 for a 100 g can. All the containers say "Made in the U.S., canned in Japan", so I guess that's why they come in metal tins instead of plastic containers.



I have a can of the 'M G", and it's good stuff, but over here I think it's way over-priced.
 
Like SteveOst I'm a yesteryear guy--growing up im the 60s; waxing the car meant Simonize and a sore arm for a week.



Liquids were just coming on the market and were sort of looked down upon--how could you really get a good wax job without an all day ordeal. Sealants were another story as the urban legend on them was if you used Liquid Glass on your car, it couldn't be repainted--pretty cool huh?



Anyway--what's interesting about these products, and I've become a big fan of Collinite--is that today's prep knowledge, clays, etc. and PC capabilities make topping with one of these a pleasure and not a chore

Which version of Collinite do you use and where do you buy it? Is there anything about Collinite you like besides the longevity?
 
hey Steve--I tried it after someone here recomended it as a "winter wax". I used it on my daily driver and got at least 6 months out of it--this is a car that's outside 24/7.



I bought the Insulator Wax from their website but also want to try the show car wax, I think they call it or 476, something along those lines. I also tried it on my black explorer on top of NXT. Those two didn't get along real well--lot of smearing to clean up with QD and an MF, but afer that it looked good; interestingly enough, went to "start over" (whole nother story) and a Dawn wash had no impact--still beaded like crazy. I think overall its shine and depth is equal to about anything out there.
 
Well this sorta spills over to some pidlling in the garage last night. I was seeing how well some different products did on a non-prepped surface, clayed only.



Lets see, some lesser known waxes I played with were:



Griots Best Of Show

Griots Caranuba

Blitz

2 Different Collinites



Also played with several other better known waxes.

I used to use Wizard Products all the time. Not too many people know about them. They are decent, nothing spectacular, and their customer service sucks beyond belief.

I hear the QD is very good, sorta in QS territory. Did you have any experience with that?

Yes, I used their Shine Master and Mist N shine the most when I used to use them. I liked the Mist N shine. The Shine master was nice too but nothing to write home about. A friend of mine only uses Wizards in their body shop and they don't seem to have any problems with it.

I used to be a distributor for them...they are based a couple miles from my house. I dropped them because of their customer service, or lack there of. Even for me, someone who is buying their stuff in huge volume, they still sucked.



I still dig their products and I wish I had bought more Mist N Shine for myself. I use my Water Bandit on a pretty regular basis.

I would say the Shine Master is about a step down from AIO...it is supposed to be a All-In-One type product, but nothing can beat Klasse.

Dale! I knew someone here used to distribute for them but could not remember who.



I tried to set up a distributor account with them, or at lest tried to talk to them about it, and had to talk with different people all of the time and they don't return e-mails or seem to give a crap so I gave up.

hehehe....yup, we are talking about the same company! They have such great potential, but just need to get it together. I have heard SOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY times that same thing about crappy customer service. But what do I know! :rolleyes:
 
SURLUSTER makes a great wax i used it plenty of time but STUPID me I lost the can.I don't think $38 is too much money for that product but that is my opinion....The Collinite product that I use is #845 its a liquid and its a real good product.I NEVER and you can quote me on this NEVER seen a product that causes the car to BEAT UP like COLLINITE.Some one in a previous thread said they use this product and it lasts 6 months, I don't know about 6 months (im not doubting them)but a friend of mine only waxes his car 3 times a year with #845 and it looks great all the time
 
So for anyone that has used both Souveran and Surluster, how do they compare? I've always wanted to try Souveran and hope to in the future but $60 is a bit much for wax, IMHO (unless it's a garaged show/exotic car). $38 for Surluster doesn't seem too bad if it's comparable to Souveran.
 
First of all with all the 15% sales going on you can pick up Souvern for about $50. and its a good deal.Souvern gives a deep wet look finish Surluster does the same but not as wet looking.Surluster is a excellent product with a excellent reputation.
