I'm probably going to order this...is it the right one? I know there are a couple different models of the LGCM.

I think most are using the first one you posted. Hmmm, I've never seen the second one.

There are two versions, one is heated and the other one isn't. We've got an unheated model and I just put in hot water from the tap when I use it. The heated one costs more and I don't know how hot it would heat (or how fast) a tank of water.

I have read that a lot of the ones being sold are refurbed and some are having problems with them. You can probably get a new unheated one cheaper than a refurbed heated model. Just something to think about.

I plan to get the unheated one and just use hot tap water. I think I could probably get hotter water from the tap anyway.

I have the first you posted. I bought mine for $39 at a close out store. IMO I wouldn't waste the $ on the heated version either. If I am going to spend $100 I would rather save up and buy a "real" extractor.

Be careful when you get it not to drop the wand in haste. It will crack and the spray pattern will turn the fine mist into a fast pour!! Ask me how I know!;)

IMO the LGCM is not a tool for the professional, but for weekend warriors like me it can give nice results.

I bought the heated version about 6 weeks ago from BestBuy for $99. I was in WallyMart last week and saw it there for $94. The unheated version is around $68, IIRC.

The unit does a darned good job. I've used it on a few spots around the house and it's been able to lift a few stains that nothing else would touch. Overall, I think it's a handy tool.

For the most part I think it's the chemical that does the stain removal. And the chemical is it comes with is very expensive. (for shop use). For every now and again it would be O.K. But you would be better off spending the money on a value priced wet/vac. I have the Green Machine. I bought it for business. When I used the cleaner it came with, a brush and a shop vac. it was the same if not better results.

Just my opinion

I have been detailing a little over a year now and the heated LGCM is all I have ever used to do carpets. I use APC and water in the solution tank. It allows me to get in lots of area I could not reach with an extractor.

I happen to have the full upright wet vac. It basically the same model but it is used for the home. Well it has the same hose attachment. Anyways. the oxymix and Meguiars APC works quite with the Bissell.

I bought it at "ValuCity" for $39, it was a refurb item.

I use a low foaming carpet cleaner in mine(I buy it locally). The APC's seem to suds too much in the recovery tank for me. They will work, but at the cost of dumping the tank more often.

The second one you showed is the older version of the first. I doubt they make it any longer. I actually have one and for the limited amount I do it works fine. I got it about 4 years ago.

Does anyone use the Big Green Machine canister carpet cleaner? I wonder how it is diffent from the LGCM?

I have the BGM and it works very well. It's not near as portable as the LGCM, but I believe it has a bigger motor on it which allows it to have a more powerful suction. I use it mainly around the house, but have also used it for the car when needed. I've thought about getting a LGCM just because of the portabilty to use in the cars and also for spot cleaning in the house.:)
