List your fav. Meguiars Products here

Thanks. You guys help a lot.

I am opening a website for Canadians where they will be able to purchase high end car care products and accessories. That is all I can say as I am not a sponsor yet and I respect david and his community to much to break the rules. Hopefully I will become a sponsor in the near future and can be very active to bringing my customers the best products, prices and customer service.

Us canadians need to stick together ;-)

To be honest with you, I've been happy with most all of their products...Except Gold Class Clear Coat Prep & Swirl Reducer.

It had a good shine, but was way too hard to remove!

I guess my favorite combo is: Medallion Paint Cleaner, or Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, #7 or #9, and Medallion Premium Paint Protector.

#26 is a good topper over MPPP too.

Well, I tend to stay away from their products...

Mostly because of the arrogant attitude of the marketing staff. They are *always* sure that their product is appropriate in any situation... this was true most recently at 'both' SEMA booths. Don't ya think most of Mike Phillips' posts fit that category/?

Along the way, I've found other products (in a variety of categories) to adequately fill the void.

DACP was my favorite, but ValuGard's "Liquid Paint Correction Creme" works as well, so...

The Beat Goes On...

Jim,

That's a very strong opinion that may spark something here from others, but in Meguiar's defense...I have had very good success with their professional line. However, like you said, there are always other products out there that will do the job. It's all in what you are looking for...

Hey, I've had good success also. But rhey are are not consistant, as geekysteve mentioned.

Given the unpredictability, and the very real arrogancy of the staff, I'll go with the comparable competition.

I think you'll find my other recent posts to be consistent with this "opinion".

I just ordered 20 gallons of various stuff from AutoMagic. Will soon order 30 gallons of 'stuff' from AutoInt.

BTW, just for giggles, the CarBrite truck drives past my shop every Tuesday. Driver has never taken the time to stop by. Go figure.

Jim,

First off, let me state that Mike Phillips is a very good friend of mine. I have never known Mike to act arrogant or to post to any forums in such a manner that would portray him in that light. Mike has a vast knowledge of detailing far exceeding most. That knowledge is clearly displayed in his posts and in his willingness to help others to achieve their goals. When Mike makes a claim, he can back it up through years and years of experience.

In fact, Mike is a car guy first (car nut actually :D) and has always been, long before he joined Meguiar's.

Jim

Hi Jim,

If you or anyone would ever like to see where I'm coming from, you can read my thoughts on the subject of products, and paint polishing systems here,

http://www.showcargarage.com/forum/announcement.php?s=&forumid=38

If you think I come off as arrogant, then I’ll take a little more time when I post messages to do my best to check my attitude at the door. Like Billy Joel says, "You could be right"

I think I'm one of those Type A, personalities, in that I like everything in a box, or in this case, I prefer to stay inside a system, (kind of like a painter), that's one of the reasons I like Meguiar's, they offer a complete and well thought-out system, (in my opinion).

I especially like how their system starts with an electronics grade Finishing Paper, (not sanding paper), that in my opinion, beats everybody else’s system right from the get-go.

If you like to go from brand xyz products to compound or clean the paint first, and then switch to brand abc products for polishing next, ending your process by topping with brand 123 wax or polish go for it. But that doesn't work for me. I guess I'm just system oriented. I like the idea of the same chemists developing products to compliment each other, with each subsequent product building off the results of the previous product and procedure. I call this a Synergistic Compatibility

Best of all, (at least for me), I always get great results when I stay inside their system.

Like I always say...

"Find something you like and use it often".

Below is a finished picture of a Corvette I buffed out over the weekend, just another car that a system approach worked for me. I finished the job at 10:30pm and all of my photos in the owners garage make the car look black, (its not a well lit garage). The owner pulled the car out into the sun yesterday and took some photos for me, the one below is his photo.

By the way, the paint on this car is 32 years old. It is a single stage acrylic enamel metallic finish. When buffing on single stage metallic finishes, you have to be very careful not to remove to much paint in any one area or you will create light and dark areas referred to as Tiger Stripes, (from the back and forth pattern of the rotary buffer).

The original owner of this 396/Turbojet Corvette Stingray told me a fake version of this car sold for over $125,000.00 at Barrett-Jackson auction this year, so when I buff cars like this out… I don’t have the time, or money to make a mistake. I need a system that will work right the first time.

Detailed write-up will be here tomorrow

Temporary thread hijack in progress!!

That Corvette made me dribble - and I'm sat at my desk!

On the subject of Megs, I'm relatively new so maybe I'm easily led when it comes to good car care products. My faves would be;

GC shampoo

APC+

As I've yet to get the right weather (ie dry!) to test my new PC with DACP/#9 I can't say whether they'll be any good but I'm hoping they will - I've read so many good reviews here and elsewhere that I have to believe they will do the job.

I think all of us will try new products, whether they're hyped or not - let's face it, most of the people whose threads I read here don't come across as sheep, blindly buying product based on marketing hype. Reviews, opinions and debate tend to be the things which make me decide on a product but let's be honest, it's actually touching & feeling & using them which ultimately tells each person what works - again as evidenced by the lively debate which pops up here.

Marketing has to exist (and this is an insurance salesman talking!) for any company to properly market its products. As Autopians, most of us can see past hype and decide which products are good and which are just hot air & BS.

At least in the US you have a wide range of very good products to choose from - apart from Alex Creasey and a few other people over here, we don't have as much luxury of choice (and we pay a lot more for the products -thanks to the tax man!)

Sorry for hijacking that thread and apologies in advance if I've upset anyone. Better do some work now - gotta pay for all that Megs stuff somehow....

:bow :bow :bow

Hooray!! Finally someone with the guts to say what a lot of us have been thinking!!!

LoL, come to think of it, it must be something the city of Irvine is putting in the water cuz my in-laws in Irvine are twice as arrogant! A lot of you folks living in Los Angeles & the valley will know what I mean when I say "OC Superiority Complex".

Why the personal attacks on Mike Phillips? I have read most of his post's on autopia and i have found them all to be very helpful. Not so much the products he talks about in them, but the process and techniques he uses and explains in them. I dont really see mike pushing meguiars products either but i do see him explaining how to use them when people ask. Isnt that the whole point of Autopia? To help eachother out? I just dont see why the personal attacks are needed, Mikes just a helpful autopia member who is very knowledgable about Meguiar's products.

Personally I look for Mike's name in threads, as well as others, because he (they) have such knowledge to share and I feel we are indeed lucky to have him amongst the ranks. I would like to thank you personally Mike for all your expertise and opinions for I value them so much. I must admit that I have leaned toward some of the Meg's professional line, and I'm happy to say that I have not been disappointed.

I genuinely appreciate you Mike

There are very few posters who can present technical information regarding a product in a thoughtful manner or any manner for that matter better than Mike. Mike in my humble opinion has never pushed a Meguiars product any harder than the average poster who posts his or her reviews of the latest and greatest products. I simply think Mike just knows a substantial amount about the products he discusses and is willing to take his time to type out this information. I would much rather get evidence presented in an organized and methodical fashion to show a product such as the new Tech Wax than reading a "This stuff is fantastic, go buy it now" post.

Maybe to some of the well read chemists on these boards and seasoned professionals, his posts could come off as marketing or not informative, but to the vast majority, they are very useful in understanding paint.
