List your bottom ten detailing products

Very interesting reading.

99% of the products listed definately are trash

Sonus green clay - you have to remember that it's ultra fine clay for use regularly for claying in between sealant applications

It won't remove heavy stuff but never strips your sealant or wax

I like it

My bottom 10

Chemical Guys - very poor line. could use the detail spray as fly spray instead. Smelt like it too

FK1 2180. bugger all durability

Werkstatt Carnauba Jett (if you use a fraction too much it leaves a really sticky finish

Optimum OHC

Black Magic

Armor All

p21s wax (doesnt last long)

Permagard Car wash

303

Autoglym - all are outdated bar the 07B for tyre gel preparation

SIP can be a very finicky prouct. I always grab for it when polishing, but it probably only works great on 6 out 10 cars. I can get grabby or heat the paint up when it acts funny (by rotary). By the flipside, when it works well, it is amazing. I would say it is probably my favorite medium polish overall (because its so great when its on).

However, a couple bad experiences with it could soil the product for anybody. Lets remember that this thread is based on personal experiences only, which is why it is so fun. It should be taken as a light-hearted rant and nothing more.

Yeah, I must have just had a bad experience with it, I just didnt like it. As the same with the other products, including #845. Just didnt last with me, looked good, just didnt last.

Threads like this always make me laugh. With 845, that stuff lasts forever on my wife's car, and withstands the bird turds from her work parking lot. Things that work well for one guy, suck for another - hey, I guess that's why there are so many product trades on here.

I dislike - -

LC Orange CCS via rotary

NXT spray wax

Original NXT

Meg's Gold Class

how do you not like the p21s wax?? i think its one of the best waxes out there in terms of looks.

I was going to PM you and ask you how #845 was working on your car?

It is funny b/c me and user JuneBug live like 2miles from each other. Both of us like completely different stuff. One product he will think sucks, I think is awesome, and vice versa.

I was actually using 845 before I bought your bottle and love it. My buddy lives in Texas, and his car gets bird bombed a lot too. He is using 845 on his car now, and has found it to be a good defense to the birds as well.

-Almost anything Zaino-I find most of their products to be overpriced and difficult to remove. I can get similar results with cheaper, easier products.

-LC CCS Yellow pads-grab like crazy, wool is much easier to work with and cuts about the same.

-Pinnacle claybar lubricant-works well but leaves behind some nasty residue

-Wheel Wax-doesn't last long and turns to a soupy mess after sitting on the shelf for a couple months. I can get better results with any old sealant

Brandon1 is partially right - I agree with him on SIP - too damn finicky for the money,

WG - may go to the shotgun range to get rid of,

HiTemp - except the grape tire dressing

Malco Restore It - runny green colored water, I threw in the trash after one try

OP, OC, OHC and PoliSeal

Meg's single digit products (like number 2, 7 etc - you know, the old stuff)

XMT pad conditioner - or any other brand too

XMT pad cleaner - coughed up a lung - switched to Dawn Power Dissolver

Natty's Blue - it blows

And I have to agree with Todd's statement:

3M Perfect It 3000 Swirl Remover- Cakes up in seconds, and does nothing else. Makes a mess of the paint, impossible to remove... Seriously the worst polish ever (if Ultra Fina and Extra Cut are so good, how can this product from the 3000 line be so bad?!)

Hmm, let's see here:

EX-P - looks great, but it doesn't last and stains trim. I have also had some residue pop up a few days later that I *knew* I buffed off.

NXT - stains trim, sorta tuff to remove, doesn't last for sh^t

OP, OHC - work OK but they take 3 days of buffing (via PC mind you) to get results. I'm usually just mixing them with other products to cut down on dusting.

NXT, Gold Class car washes - only buy it for wheel duty.

Stoner's Invisible Glass - I get 10x better and faster results from ONR mixed at 8:1(ish) in a spray bottle.

Meguiar's Professional Mild (Blue) Clay - turns to mush, leaves residue everywhere.

Meguiar's #9 - all it does is fill...

Poorboy's Natural Look - I'm using it up on the tires as a base for other dressings, but I won't put it anywhere near the interior with the way it smells.

OK, not ten, but close enough. I am still using some of these products, and only a few of them do I truely hate, but once I run out I probably won't purchase any of these again...

Optimum Polish I bought it due to the hype it had a while ago, yet it is only good for keeping other levelers or compounds wet. It has no place by itself, it is a decent final polish, but there are much better options.

ZAIO and Z-pc Two useless products, aio doesn't match up to the other products of it's same purpose.

303 Cleaner Not impressed at all, but not for the same reason many claim, that it is water, it's just not impressive for the money.

Fill in many Adams products here

At the moment can only think of one product I was really disappointed with, CG WMF. Dries way too quick and therefore difficult to apply evenly.

Easy, easy, easy one. Just tried it today.

Griot's Garage Best of Show Wax- Tried it on the fender of a freshly (perfect) polished Rolls. It was so hard to remove that I left marring from rubbing so hard. Never will I even think about touching this stuff again.

Black Magic wax- tried it four years ago. The first time it rained I noticed that it didn't come off

Car Brite- Perfect polish

I've gotten it on my trim all the time and never experienced any staining with it... hell you're supposed to be able to USE it on trim, as it's safe for glass, plastic, paint, etc...

I've had great luck using EX-P

Really? I've got nothing but staining from it. This is on textured trim, like the kind you would find on the bottom panels of an SUV.

a friend of mine dropped off a bunch of samples of this stuff called "well worth". they make all kinds of bulk detailing supplies.

its some of the worst crap you can imagine. i learned to detail using ardex materials. i can say that ardex isn't up to par with the rest (megs, 3m, zaino, menz..etc) but it does hold its own over jsut about any OTC products, including that of meguiars. let me tell you, ardex's stuff blows well worth out of the water, thats how bad their stuff was. (Well-Worth Products, Inc.)

they had an LSP wax called showroom. this is what the bottle said:

"Final finish wax contains special polymers and silicones that produce a rich "WET LOOK". Recommended for new car prep and reconditioning used cars."

so yesterday, i buff up a car with some m105 followed by ultra fina and the car looks great. i grab this stuff and try it out. it was some of the harshest wax i ever used. upon removal, it caked up so bad that the grit actually swirled the whole hood. i had to buff it all over again. i immediately threw the whole bottle in the trash. based on the quality of their products that i've tried, i would list any of their 10 products as my bottom ten.

I'm curious to know why you don't like Chemical Guys? I'm pretty much all CG products in my arsenal. I haven't had any issues with them and plus Paul is a HUGE help.

*Any Soft 99 or Willson compound or polish - All the ones I've tried dry into a white powder within seconds and are so difficult to remove.

*All of the high end Surluster waxes sold over here - they cost about $50, are nothing special, and appear to be the same stuff in their $15 tins - total rip-off.

*Natty's Blue; it's pretty good wax, but I don't get the "wetness" everyone talks about and the smell makes be sick.

*KAIO - :nixweiss

I can probably think of others. . .
