This one had tons of real estate to work on and being lifted was good and bad. Most of the paint was at standing or sitting height but top portion and hood were worked on by standing on work platforms. Love the results from what we got out of the paint, still lots more of minor detailing to come on this truck.
Wash - CG Citrus wash
Wheels - Meguiars DUBS
Tire clean - LA Totally Awesome APC
Decon - Nanoskin fine mitt w/ CG clay lube
Polish - HD Polish w/ orange 5.5 b&s pad, PC on speed 6
LSP - BF wet ice over fire combo, Griots 3in w/ griots 4in red pad
Glass - Ceriglass and RainX
Tire dressing - OptiBond w/ Preval sprayer
This truck is far from being done perfectly but our main focus was the paint. I was 80% happy with the results, it still had minor scratches and defects that could not be removed with what time frame we had. The glass on both driver and passenger front were heavily scratches and could not be removed, he said those will be replaced.
Unbelievable how dirty it was
Lets start on the wheels and tires, it was starting to drizzle a bit at the start and I rushed through cleaning the tires thoroughly and I regretted it when I had to apply dressing
After wheels and tires, I attempted to remove the scratches out of the both front glasses but failed. The windows all around did have hard water spots so those were hit with Ceriglass
Vehicle was washed with 2BM and results in the rinse bucket were horrible
Vehicle was put inside the shop for decon. This vehicle sits at the chemical plant quite a bit and im guessing the fall out from the plant caused the paint to be HORRIBLE, especially the hood. (turn your volume up for video)
After the hood was clayed
I did not get to perform this truck in my garage due to its size so I had to bring some of my supplies with me. I did not bring enough polishes and compound and I sort of regret it. I first tried CG v38 on a green pad and results were not even close. I chose HD Polish w/ a white first and got near perfect results but decided to step up to orange pad and got even better results with the same finish. I did attempt to go harder with a compound but it did not finish w/o marring and I did not want to do a 2 step on this giant beast.
One of the main deep scratches on the truck. We suspect it was keyed but being a repaint, the clear was pretty hard and kept most of the damage off. Easily polished 90% of it off.
About 8 hours worth of polishing were done, also tried using griots 3inch to polish. That was a huge mistake that costed me time due to it not removing any swirls at all. I went back and forced my PC into semi tight areas but the really tight areas were hit with the griots 3in very very slowly for it to work, even at that point it only removed 50% worth...
All polishing was done and BF wet diamond was applied, hazed for 20 mins then removed.
My Uncle Ron's selfie pic
The vehicle slept inside the shop and it was roughly 55 degrees the entire night inside. After 12 hours of cure time, the truck was brought out the next morning for a quick pic (I wanted to see how sharp BF wet diamond made it look).
I let the wet diamond cure for about a hour or so more that morning while I dressed the tires with OptiBond. I noticed the dressing did not stick very well and that was probably due to poor cleaning. I dressed the tires 3 times, used 2 and half oz and on the 3rd dressing I sprayed the tires and did not wipe it in.
Applied BF Midnight Sun, removed all the tape and moved outside to create whiplash.
Thanks for looking! and I welcome all critiques and questions!
