very nice deanski. Where would I look to purchase armorglove? I've found the websites for the 3M stuff, but i'd like to look at this as well.
Also, did you install yourself? If you don't mind my asking, what was the total cost, install and all?
Thanks again! I think i'm set on the clear bra. Just gotta find a make and manufacturer.
Thanks for the help!!
Armorglove.com is the website that has dealers and installers list. It is the 3M thicker film in the Scotchcal line.
Total cost installing a little over $1000.00 for ALL the work and film, which is quite a bit. It takes two men on the hood to wrap it correctly. They can also make whatever you want on a custom level. If you wanted the whole hood, they can do it.
As for paint under it and paint surrounding, both will have same amount of UV as the film does not change UV filtering at all. So after years and you take it off, the only thing may be the finish is still smooth where it was. Just a quick polish of the rest of the area and it's same. I've seen it done on quite a few high-end cars in our area, and in one show, the owner wanted it removed for the show, then had it re-installed (new one).
Black bras are known for paint damage, it's fact! Once you get dirt trapped under it, with it being forced against the finish while traveling, it can act depending on the dirt, like sandpaper. It will abrade the finish slightly or more if left over time. Short use is no problem, as you would remove it, wash the area and no dirt on the finish, but you have to closly inspect the bra for imbedded dirt before you put it back on. So, short use is OK. Long-time use, never removed, you run the risk of abrading the finish. It all depends on dust conditions. If you drive in an area where there is very little or no dust, you should be OK.
True, clear bras still need attention when you wax. No strong polishes or pads over it. You can wax over it. I have Zaino over mine. They do not yellow if they are 3M, some cheaper ones may. But my headlights, hood, air-dam etc all are fine now!
IMO, I think the black bras just detract from the beauty of the car.
Anyone want a brand new Colgan "Carbon Fiber" complete bra for a 2003 Lexus SC430? New in the box, never took out!
