Where does one obtain these silicone washers? I'm interested.

Not washers, bumpers ;) Go to Lowes, in the dept. where they have felt pads/etc. for like on the bottom of furniture legs. They sell different self-adhesive silicone bumpers, get the big ones that are like square pyramids. The small ones didn't work as well as I'd expected and the large ones were not so thick that they interfered with the length of the mounting screws/bolts.

In my experience LEOs are generally selective about enforcing the front plate laws. But note that they *can* use it as an excuse to pull you over for a visit so consider whether that's worth the risk to you. Never happened to me but it has happened to people I know. They don't even mention it during my traffic stops, but as best I can tell Accumulatorette and I come across as LEO-friendly :D

Accumulator - I've been pulled over before for not having a front plate on, but not in this area. It was before I moved.

And when the LEO asked if I knew that my front plate was not on, I said something to the extent of "yeah, I took it off yesterday because I was waxing the car, and I wanted to wax underneath the plate. It's actually in the trunk...I can put it back on right now if you want". Of course he doesn't even bother to give me a warning, because I am clearly willing put put it back on as he watches.

And yes, the front plate is always in my trunk, should this situation ever occur. My car looks much better without the front plate, so I don't mind the possible inconvenience.

That's a good plan! I can't do that on cars without the front plate holes, but I think I'll stash the RX-7's front plate & bracket in the car. Thanks for the tip!

Of course it's gonna be a loooooong time before that one gets back on the road

I voted black. Chrome a little too loud IMO. What color is your plate? A photo of your front or trunk right now?

I had a black frame on a blue Protege and it looked good. Of course, silver is a different story.

I'd go with "zoom-zoom", as you already have a Mazda badge on the back.

I like this one. T-6 Aluminum.

You do know T-6 is a heat treat specification, not an aluminum alloy specification.

If it's 7075T-6, and you live in the snow belt where they use road salt, you'll be using the lifetime warrenty in a couple years.

I put my black Injen frame on the Protege (got it free with the CAI from the Maxima but never installed it) to see what a black frame would look like. I think it draws too much attention against the silver paint.

The biggest problem, is that the registration stickers are partially hidden behind the bottom of the frame. Judging by the design of the frames I linked to, this would be the case with them as well. :(

This is the damage caused by the bare plate, and the reason that I want to keep it off the paint.

They make frames with cut-outs so the stickers will show. Look at Griot's for examples, they have a few different styles.
