lets talk websites

That should be a sticky on every car forum! I didn't go through every single thing, but what I did see shows quality products (okay, what I like to use!) and good technique. I know a few people I will send it to already.

Thought if anyone was interested they could see a snapshot of my webpage..at least what I have done so far. Started Monday night - any input would be appreciated...if it looks too kid-ish or if it is good so far. Not looking for a mind blowing website..just trying to do the best I can with my knowledge of web design. Thanks guys - great thread.

blkyukon your site is awesome. From having a quick browse through it I can see how pro you are, you use all the right techniques you explain them also, i can see before/after shots, i see the tools and products you use throughout the site, pictures are high quality but not extremely large in size.

The only thing i didn't like are the ads. You might want to consider paying for hosting, it just adds that bit more class and i always find it less professional when i see ads on a site. Also couldn't find your contact details.

Overall that is an excellent website IMO nice work.

Thanks!! There are plenty of sites and forums that will go into depth on each and every step but I wanted to keep it basic to not scare away anyone from proper detailing....and help take out some of the guess work (i.e. polishing) for beginners.

As far as the ads, it is a paid server and I added the ads to help offset the cost. I sell nothing on my site it's information only...so all the money for the server comes out of my pocket, so anything helps to keep it up.

i agree with you on that. it shows your customers that you are not willing to spend the extra dollars. for some they may understand, however for majority, it would leave a negative impression.

I think everyone's missing the point on blkyukon's site that it's an information site - not a professional site. It's for fun, not money.

Agreed....Everyone is picking it apart; when in reality it is probably the most reffered to site here on autopia for learning how to use the pc and get rid of micromarring. I think the site is great for it's purpose and very informative.

Joshua312 & kompressornsc Thanks!

Joshua - site looks good...I like the header:2thumbs:

I'm sorry I thought I had clarified that my site is not a business site, it's for information only. The reason I have the ads on there is my site uses about 175gigs of bandwidth a month and is growing each month...with the ads hopefully it will help off set the cost and I'll be able to keep the site running, increase my bandwidth and add more videos, how to's etc...

And yes for a business site I totally agree, ads are a big no no :nono

I'd say 70% of our customers are web-generated. Having established ourselves (personally) in various local car clubs allowed us to penetrate that market pretty well... The remaining 20% are from referrals and the remaining 10% are walk-ins.

Our website is our main marketing tool.
