Let's talk towels - specifically PLUSH drying towels

yea its similar only smaller (18 x 16). picked mine up at wally world in the kitchen area. mind you i have not tried any of the towel that have some type of foam in them for dry a car.

Ok, thanks. I don't really NEED another drying towel at the moment, but it's always good to have options.:thumb:

Thanks to Ted for bringing this Microtex towel to our attention! I did wash a car yesterday and had a chance to try it out. I can report with some excitement that this is the best drying towel I've ever used. It's somewhat superior to the waffle weave towels I've been using for a number of years. It offers true one-pass drying. It's that good and it's great on glass. There's virtually no water residue left behind and it allows one to dry the car somewhat faster I found.



It was super-humid when I dried the car and I typically find the WW towel struggles a bit under these circumstances. The thing that I found interesting was that the towel really wasn't soaked after drying the car. I only used one towel, I had purchased two. I did not prime the towel prior to use.



Two minor complaints: The towel is huge and I don't like huge drying towels as they tend to drag on the ground, but that's more a personal style thing. I think I'd like to cut one of my towels in half or quarters to make it a bit more user-friendly for door jambs and tighter areas where a huge towel doesn't work well.



Other concern: Again, perhaps a style issue, but you've got to lay the towel out flat and pull it towards you. (I suspect this towel would be just about perfect for those who "pat" dry.) This requires the use of both hands. You can't really push this towel...it just grabs the surface and bunches up. I guess I can get used to this, and it works great, but I'm accustomed to having a small WW towel in my left hand and a large in my right. This is what works well for me.



The towels are super-plush and look like new after laundering.



At $8.50 per towel, I'll give this one a strong buy recommendation. It's quite nice :nod:

Tom, that's exciting news! Every now and then WalMart has a gem. I'll be on the hunt for this towel. Thanks to you and Ted for the discovery and the feedback!

I will say that MF towels are one of those things that you just gotta figure out yourself by what you like best and what works best with the clearcoat on the vehicles you detail. I order three towels each from about 10 different distributors, picked my favorite, and ordered about 100 of them, and now I'm good to go. It is also very interesting to see the varying prices and names on the exact same towels from the exact same places with the exact same stitching and tags. Everyone has their opinions, but my opinion is to test them yourself because batches and sources are changed all the time so someone's 100 favorite towels they bought 3 years ago are likely different now.

I have a lot of WW towels from different sources. They're all pretty good 'til they lose their absorbency. The towel from W*mart really is a step ahead of the others I own in terms of amount of water absorbed.



I agree, we'll have to see how these plush towels are performing after a year of use.
 
I'm the exact opposite with my WW. My Sonus and Pakshak Ultra Soft WW are like a fine wine. It just get's better with age.



I've alwayed primed the beegeezus out of my Sonus WW. Because they are still thick\thicker than my favorite Ultrasoft variant, I still prime them to make them softer, but I don't make sure they are almost soaking wet as it feels softer to me at least these days

i dont really know much about towels but the one i mainly use is a "no name" brand i believe.

its maybe 18x18 and super super plush, with silk stitching

i have been using it for about 6-8 months and it still performs like new. i fold the towel and drag it with hardly any downforce and it sucks alot of the water. i can dry the whole car with one towel and it doesnt leave any traces of water.

this is a towel by the same company.

i bought it here in canada at princess auto on clearance for $5 and now i wish i would have bought more



i have yet to try WW towels so i cant really comment on how it compares
 
I have to confess that my initial enthusiasm for the Walmart plush towel has faded. The towel works well, but it's just too large and has too much drag for my liking. They absorb well, they receive good marks in that category. I guess it's kind of a personal style thing, I prefer more compact towels. And you basically need both hands on this towel when drying broad, horizontal surfaces.

Now I, OTOH, find the size just right as I like to fold it and use it "thicker".



It does a good job of getting water off, for a plush MF, but it doesn't do as good a job as a good/working-properly WW. Good enough though, and that's from the guy who says all his other plush MFs leave a little water behind.



But it really does have a lot of "grabby drag" feel! Even with spritzes of stuff like FK425 and Fk146! Definitely doesn't "glide smoothly over the surface of the paint" :grinno:



Eh, I bought a total of three of these, and I do like the idea of a thick, plush drying towel. But we'll see what I think after some more experience with 'em :think:
