Leather damage, abrasion scratch

I could not get a good picture of the leather but let me explain. Grey leather seat has a abrasion about 3 inches long and a 1/4 inch wide at the middle. It was rubbed by a heavy seam on a emergency vest. It can be felt with your finger, is a little rough and the sheen is worn off. Do I need to re-dye to get sheen back? It would still have the groove so I don't think that is the best thing to do. What's best?
